Made In China

No one may care, but I searched qvc.com for Made in USA and came up with 6,210 items. A search for Made in China came up with over 25,000 products! I have searched other websites and come up with even higher numbers. Made in America is disappearing. It's sad.

Sad but true, the AMERICAN companies are taking their companies overseas where materials and workforce is cheaper. But remember, AMERICAN made DOES NOT always mean QUALITY. Sad but true, there are plenty of foriegn made items that are high quality AND plenty of American made products that a junk. Buying AMERICAN QUALITY MADE items is a good thing, however I AM NOT going to buy american made junk. I would rather buy foreign made quality.

Someone did a small study by asking people to look at items in their homes and see how many they could find that were made in America - apparently they didn't find many. It's a sad state of affairs that so many good jobs have gone overseas.....

The solution is simple. When you call to order something, ASK where it is made. If it is made in another country simply say "no thanks". Then and only then will they start selling made in the USA products.

Each to his own, but I will always enjoy certain goods from a variety of countries. I have several pieces of Polish stoneware, some French porcelain, Spanish pottery, and many items made in Italy, Greece, India, and a host of other countries as well.

susieQ3, I believe you missed the point of the conversation. I am quite aware that there are a lot of things made in other countries. When jobs are lost and quality is poor then it is time to take back our country and make things here again.

I love jewelry from Spain, Israel, Turkey, India and Bali, and gold from Italy. And I love Native American pieces as well.

But I do see the point you're making, OP. I think it's sad that so many jobs here are being transferred overseas.

As labor in China becomes more and more expensive, you'll be able to buy more made in America.

As someone old enough to remember when that was generally true, I can tell you it will not be an unmixed blessing. You will be supporting more local workers, but you're also quite likely to see prices rise significantly unless companies can do more with fewer workers than they used to. That's what has been happening over the last few decades. We actually manufacture more overall now than we used to, but that doesn't translate to more good jobs because technology has changed manufacturing so much.

Millieshops, you are so right about the prices being higher if made in the USA but that is because of unions. In the early days unions were a very good thing, now they just run the price up on everything because of their demands. In a union it takes at least 4 people to do 1 persons job.

I didn't miss your other point in which you clearly exhorted us to say "No thanks" to any product not made in the U.S, and I'm definitely not missing this one.

Given that they are full of human beings, no bureaucracy, whether it be government, unions, or corporations, is immune from self-interest or corruption.

So I heartily disagree that unions are the sole or even main reason for globalization or outsourcing. But I'm not going to elaborate on your political point, other than to say that I fear that anti-union sentiment and scapegoating serves only to give businesses and corporations even more license to exploit.

Could you give us your source for this so-called fact? In my opinion, this is a ridiculous statement - no company, unionized or not, would allow anything like that...and it would not be to the union's advantage to have that happen. Just another F@X News talking point.......
