Designers on QVC

I am guilty of making an assumption but one day the powers at QVc decided to bring known designers onto the Q. Probably the idea was that most of their customers did not shop on Rodeo Drive and would be excited to buy designer clothing in their price range. I can agree with that idea. The designer who does this best is Bob Mackie. Each garment is carefully designed and made to make the wearer look her best. Each one is special is some way. Can't say that about every designer though. I won't point anyone out but some designers make clothing that only looks good on a size 0. Sometimes I just flinch when I see the hosts wearing a TSV that looks dreadful on them.

When it comes to spending money I am frugal. I get really irritated when a " designer" presents a plain unadorned tee shirt and acts like it is wonderful beyond compare. Really? The Q should insist that if they want to sell their stuff it should be special. In other words design something!! Sorry but not spending $40 for a shirt when I can get 5 that look just like it for the same price elsewhere. . I have seen really cute and interesting things on other channels for better prices. Apparently the Q is making tons of money but they could do alot better with some imagination.

Not a "designer" person with very few exceptions. Most of QVC's "designer" clothing is just a faux-lebrity's name on some nameless manufacturer's goods, anyway - they had maybe 10-20% feedback into design at most.

ITA about the plain t-shirts, any shirts/tops, and basic capris, shorts, jeans, etc. I can buy those anywhere, either locally or online at other retailers for half the price. Why would I buy them here? Quality's no better, there is no "design", and if they don't fit you could have bought one somewhere else for what the back-and-forth postage costs. It's bizarre.

My mother was the type to turn her clothing back over a chair so everyone could see the labels. QVC is assuming, I guess, that most of their customers are the same. But - a label announcing Lisa Rinna, Susan Graver, etc. - laughable as far as impressing anyone.

I understanding what your saying. Before I get hate vibes for mentioning a certain designer please know that in general I like this man and his line of clothing. However the other day he made a statement to the fact that he never pays attention to what clothes cost he loves clothes, but then he has to remember that not everyone is in his position

to buy when ever and what ever he likes. He does has some of the 40 dollar t-shirts that everyone must have and in multiply colors. Thank you Issac for at least once in a while remembering not everyone is in your economic class and I would hope that you remember that it is us "little" people that put you in the position not have to look at what things cost. Sadly I still do and probably will always.

Here's my 2 cents worth of opinions..The word "designer" is given to almost any person who can pick up a pencil and not just on QVC. Most of these "designers" are merely celebrities who probably have never picked up a needle and thread in their lives. IMO, Oscar de la Renta, Bob Mackie, Nolan Miller, Halston, Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera and that group were truly designers. I realize their designs cost big bucks and I could never afford the major designers but I also have no need for that kind of clothing. However, I am also not going to spend $40 for a t-shirt because it says IM, SG, LR, Giuliana Rancic, Melissa McCarthy, LG-who has some of the worst "designs" I've ever seen and so on. Since when is every cardigan a big piece of polyester with no structure, no buttons, no shape? It is almost impossible to buy slacks that have a button and fly and don't show the hair follicles on your legs. I guess I expect too much from the Q's and HSN "designers". I would love to see more of Louis Dell'Olio and a whole lot less of some of these other house "designers".

To Bootsanne: I could not agree with you more! These "designers" are laughable until you see the prices they are asking for some of these items. I'm so disillusioned with QVC and their "designer" brands. And quite honestly I cannot even stand to watch the program when they're on with the exception of Isaac and Louis Del'olio. I feel the same way about the newer hosts. If they only listened to themselves. I may be forced to go back shopping in a real store with real brand names.

I do not think the prices at QVC are out of line. Yes, at the B&M stores we can use coupons and get better prices and bonus buys, etc. At QVC we are not paying for "designer" names, we are paying for the cost of a good grade of fabric and details at least in the brands I buy. That is what is important to me and what I find in Graver abd Issac for fabric and extra detail Everything I have purchased from these brands has been of good quallity. Also like Denim & Co. I buy limlited amount of Mackie, Joan Rivers, Kim Gravel and have found the same with these brands. I get many catalogs and the prices are more than at QVC for similar grades of clothing. I would rather pay a few dollars more for SG and IM. All I have to do is go to the Mall or Kohls and feel the material and back to QVC I go. In fact if I don't have a coupon and the item is not on sale, brands I would buy in B&M are more than at QVC.

I am happy with QVC for the most part. My issue would be with inconsistent sizing, but I do not think that is QVC's fault. I find it in all brands of clothes everywhere. I was taught that price was what the consumer was willing to pay based on perceived value. I was also taught: first create a need, next create perceived value, find a niche, choose a price point, and market.

@KathyM23- I agree. The designers on QVC are producing clothing of good quality for those of us who can not afford, want or need their couture lines. I love IM; his clothing is a very good quality and his tee shirts are better than many in B&M stores. I have purchased equal quality at Nordstrom and have paid a much higher price unless on sale. I don't like flimsy tees with no body or see through apparel. IMs tees just feel nice and look finished. I believe you get what you pay for and I don't find QVC prices out of line. The cost of living is just higher. I do get good deals from JJill but even their t shirts are not as nice as Isaacs. I'm pretty happy with QVC. My lifestyle is casual as I am retired but I still like to look nice. The best thing about QVC is the variety of sizes, colors and styles. Right now, I've had positive experiences with C Wonder

Please don't get me wrong that I'm a designer snob. I buy a lot from QVC, mostly IM because that is the brand I've had the most luck with size wise. My last 2 purchases, a top by Belle and another top from Denim & Co., were a waste of $18.50 in postage. I had sized up on both tops because of the supposed 5% spandex. They both fit like sausage casing. These were both a basic t-shirt style, both over $30 each. I recently purchased over $400 worth of clothes from Ulla Popken, a plus-size catalogue. 100% cotton tank tops, size 18-20 for $7.49, matching cardigans $14.00. 3 large bags of clothing, flat rate $8.95 shipping and 40% off. I made a haul for summer and fall. None had "designer" labels. I guess what I'm trying to say is that what the shopping channels are passing off as "designer" are just merely house brands at inflated prices.

Designer fashion is a joke at the Q, the prices are a little high for GILI, but all in all the prices I agree, are not that out of line. What is out of line is the S&H and returns, especially on shoe and boot purchases.

Yes, Designers are those that are in the glossy magazines or the mid level ones that are on the 4th floor at Nordstroms. The clothing designers at QVC are "designers" they design clothing, but are not high end designers.

Since last year I buy all of my clothes from QVC and I am really happy. I buy mostly from Denim & Co. because I am not working I volunteer, but I love Isaac's 24/7 pants and I own three tops from Susan Graver.

I wish Susan Graver would show petites on her shows. She only has tall thin models on her shows so it is hard to see how the clothes will fit on the rest of us.

I can add 2 cents more re: Designer Jewelry. Yes, Barbara Bixby, Michael Dawkins, RLM, & some others actually learned their craft, sketch and design the first prototype and actually are able to put hammer & hand to metal and make the piece. Just having an idea like SG and Lori does not a jeweler make.

QVC does have some world class designers as well as award winning designers - Hall of Fame Coty award winner Louis Dell Olio, Isaac Mizrahi and Bob Mackie. Judith Ripka is a recipient of the prestigious DeBeers award for her designs in jewelry. Barbara Bixby is an honored Jewelry designer also.

I primarily purchase a lot of Linea by Louis Dell Olio and a little of Mizrahi. I will admit to purchasing GILI also. No one knows who designs those clothes - not Jill Martin (though I think she represents the brand well.) As an example I purchased Louis Dell Olio's embroidered baseball jacket in black. Whenever I wear that jacket, strangers compliment and ask me about it. I also own a GILI jacket that people always compliment me on - GILI (A286997) Peplum faux leather zip front jacket. It is a well designed jacket also.

I agree about the faux designers, but they must be selling to someone or have talented people backing them up.
