Hosts ordering during presentation

Does anyone else find it unprofessional for a host to be ordering for themself during a presentation - especially one that may sell out? For some reason it doesn't seem right. I thought they had a chance before the item is presented as a perk of being a host, but maybe I am wrong. The other night a host who I will not name was presenting something new that was selling out fast. She asked her producer while on air presenting to order her 2 of the item and a few minutes later it sold out. What if you were a customer waiting on line or on the phone to place your order but you lost out because the host got the last one!

Doesn't bother me at all. First come, first served ... it really would not matter who the person was. Some people believe it's a sales tactic.

Years ago it wasn't done. I am not sure when this started when hosts and models could purchase while showing an item. The policy was the customer first and if anything was still availible they could order after the show.

Yes, I think it is wrong for the reason that they should be focused on the customer and not themselves. When I worked in retail, we were not allowed to try on clothes or have a sale rung up by another associate unless we were on our lunch break or were "off the clock."

I enjoy QVC and this is not a deal breaker for me, but I'm just responding to the question.

I suppose each company has their own policy that works for them.

I think it is all a sales tactic to generate more sales. The hosts can order before the show if they really want an item. They know what will be presented. That said, if it is "legit", I would not care.

I think it's a sales tactic, since they could easily order beforehand. Having said that, I find it a very tacky sales tactic. "Too bad, customer! I got here first!". Not a message that a business should want to send to its customers.

I'm a cynic, I don't think they are really buying the product, they just want to drum up interest in the item. Personally, I don't care what the hosts buy. I don't believe that they wear QVC clothes in their real life.

My remembrance of it is the LISA ROBERTSON STARTED THIS. I think it was a sales tactic. She was always so "cutesy" about doing it-complete act. Of course whatever she "ordered" sold out because everyone wanted to be like her.

First, that was weird. When I signed in, the page went to my order status instead of back to the forum.

I don't believe they are buying the item. Mainly, because I never see them in the item they supposedly bought. So, it is a sales tactic.

I remember years ago that anytime LR said she was going to buy a certain color after the presentation, it would sell out and she would pretend to be mad. I do remember her wearing the clothes that she said she bought though (the Dialogue tweed jackets cone to mind). That was before almost everyone started wearing designer duds that they bought from other retailers.

It doesn't bother me. It's a sales tactic. They're trying to get people amped up about something or get them to hurry up and make up their mind about choosing a color (red is flying out the door!) or getting the item, period.

I would think with certain items (shoes, small appliances, electronic gadgets, etc.) they likely get them in advance and use them at work off-air (and/or possibly at home), which makes sense to me, as they should know about what items they are/will be presenting.

Other sales tactics I don't fall for......."we are VERY busy on the phones, please use automated ordering".....or....."MOST PEOPLE (really?) are ordering more than one!" But, if I had to sell things for 2 or 3 hours on TV, I might say anything too.

I really like Jill, but she did this a couple of nights ago and I found it very annoying. I wasn't planning to order bunnies. I have dozens, including three that are in my back yard right now munching out, but for those who wanted that set I found it wrong. Jill explained that she had designed these bunnies. And she certainly got to see them when she previewed the show, which she mentioned that she had done. No reason she could not have ordered before the show started. I think this was not a sales tactic - just something she didn't know for sure was going to sell out and she didn't want to miss out. I think they should go back to no host ordering unless before or after the show. If it sells out, tough luck. You had your chance before we got to see it.

Tacky is exactly what I would call it. I really think it's a sales tactic, in fact I think it means the item isn't selling well enough. Hard to imagine people rush to order after hearing that.

When a color becomes a "favorite" in the middle of the presentation, I also think that means it's not selling. This I find humorous. The ordering I find offensive.

I don't mind. It's only one or two more items that aren't available....and I think it's rare that the last item would be the one I would have been able to buy.
