Shipping baffles me!

Not the cost. The route.

I ordered an item on the 22d, it shipped on the 26th to be delivered by "US Mail."

Estimated delivery date was yesterday...the 29th. I didn't get it. I checked tracking. I won't be getting it today either.

It has gone from a city about 2 hours away from me to the state that borders me on the south, to a state two states north of me; and it is currently in the that borders me on the north.

I might have it by the end of the week...I hope!!

Wish they would have stopped here on the way north to drop it off.

I can relate. About a year ago or so, I had two orders that shipped out at different times that went from the East coast to California back to the Midwest. That does not make any sense to me. Yes, it took forever to receive the packages. Something that would normally take 2 days from the East coast to the Midwest ended up taking 5 added days! This year I have been fortunate as I have been receiving fast shipping out and receiving. Go figure. Happy Holidays!

I can relate about the strange shipping routes. I noticed 2 days ago that my package was in my town, the next day in was 2 hours away, on the other side of the state! Crazy!!

Shipping is neither baffling nor does it defy the imagination. People on these boards, for the most part, simply fail to understand logistics.

When a package is shipped to you, the package is not picked up by an individual carrier and whisked away directly to your home. While this would be nice, it would be labor intensive and extremely expensive (which is why we use shipping companies rather than hire individual couriers to have our packages delivered). People fail to understand this.

Your package will be shipped with many other packages to a sorting facilities. There, the package will be bundled with other packages, go to another sorting facility, where it will be sorted, bundled, shipped, sorted, etc. This happens many times.

While you may not understand it, it is still being handled in the most efficient and cost-effect manner.

One of the many mysteries of life. I returned an item just four days after receiving it, paid myself w/tracking. I checked the status and it was delivered 5 days ago. Still no refund. I did online chat asking for status of why I was not issued a refund and I provided the tracking number and she commented that it "didn't work." She issued a refund, which still is not showing but I realize that takes a couple days. I just can't figure out why they have not marked it as returned yet. I know they have it. I checked USPS tracking several times.

Nothing surprises me any longer, but I am one of the lucky ones. I do remember when I waited nearly two weeks for packages, but now pretty much everything arrives within 4 business days.

I also know two or three years ago, pretty much all my ordinary mail was taking way too long to come and go from where I am in SE Florida and then starting sometime last year, whatever the problem was got solved and the few bills I pay by mail as well as cards and notes are back to 2 day delivery.

What I really don't understand is why there are such great differences.

As I said, it's coming US Mail. It isn't a large package. If a package that size was MAILED by anyone else, it would have been here today...or yesterday. Even QVC estimated delivery by yesterday.

Maybe you need to tutor THEM in logistics.

I mailed a package "2-day Priority" from Phoenix to Naples, FL on October 25. According to the tracking, as of today......it's in Chicago...........

@Kachina624 Nope......only what comes with Priority Mail. The funny part of this...........it was a book my cousin wanted, and I found it in a thrift store for three bucks. I'd print out the the tracking and demand my $12.40 back from the postmaster........... but it just isn't worth it during the Christmas rush.......I'd be in line for an hour.

OMG, @Desertdi! That's beyond ridiculous! If you have time and energy after Christmas and if it's been delivered by then, it might be fun/interesting to print out the journey and send it to the USPS.

But even as I wrote that, part of me was saying, "What's the use?"

I don't know if you get anything with priority mail besides tracking.

Finally, this experience is more evidence that no good deed goes unpunished.

@Kachina624 Well, the counter guy at the PO hefted the package and said, "Is this a book?" I said, "Yeah, but I want it to get there."

What a joke.......... This package has been to Memphis, and Tampa TWICE (close, but not quite)........and now Chicago.

@Kachina624 There's a "tell us your experience" phone number on the bottom of my receipt............I haven't tried it yet (actually, I think it just might be a survey number). What I don't understand is if they can't find Naples, FL, why don't they just return it to me (??)
