Guess the jokes on me. I've had this "stupid product" and use it almost every day. I'm guessing you're not going to buy one...especially after such a lovely post!!!!

I don't think the presentations of Echo are a joke. From the little I've seen of them, I don't remember the vendor mentioning if you need to be a member of Amazon to take advantage of the things Echo does.

I am not a member of Amazon & don't plan on being one. I am interested in the Echo though. I will need to do some further research.

I just ordered my second one. I love it. I have one in kitchen and new one is going in my bedroom. I also have the tap which I will put in the back bedroom. This stupid thing does a lot more the what they even showed in the presentation.

I ordered mine at midnight and it has already been shipped.

I would not have a listening device like that in my house. For what…to have it tell you what time it is, or how many teaspoons in a tablespoon or to play music when you could turn it on yourself? It is sold as a device that is always listening (far field voice recognition hears you throughout your home) and responds when it hears its name. Does it ever shut off after it responds?…Not if it is a listening device! It can be recording your in-home conversations and storing them in the Cloud. There is nothing very secret going on in our home but I am getting tired of all these things that want to invade privacy. I won’t even join those grocery store discount cards because they keep track of every item you purchase. They are not gathering that information for nothing…some day it will come to haunt. There is enough of this that I cannot control, but I am most assuredly not going to willingly provide access to my privacy. Everyone can make that choice for themselves and I choose not to go willingly down that path. I am not saying you should not, just saying why it isn’t for me.

HAHAHA.....My Echo sits near my computer and i have David and Brett on...everytime they say Alexa...mine responds...so far my clock is set for sometime tomorrow...haha...and the song they asked to play...mine did to...she has been doing everything that David and Brett has asked on air...pretty funny...

Mine said i have to get the app to play that game they played and wound up with broccoli...can someone tell me what to look for...i

would like to challenge mine...

Seems like any smartphone could do anything Alexa does. Not sure why Alexa is needed. Because she's voice activated? Guess I'm just skeptical about gadget glut.

@Mz iMacYou have to have a free Amazon account to set up the Echo. You do not have to purchase the Prime features. In order to play millions of their free songs you have to have Prime. Other that that, I think it is fully functional without Prime. Hope that helps!

By the way, in order to set your Echo up, you DO NOT need a smart phone. You can do it from your computer. You go to alexa.amazon.com to set it up. You also use this address to print off your shopping list and your "to do" list.

BTW to OP: I own 2 Echos, one for work and one for home plus one Dot for my bedroom. I love them all and they are very functional.

@Perkup I will try my best. To get ask my buddy you must download the app. just go to the app you have on your phone or computer. You can add up to 5 people with one being your main contact. This is the main reason I bought this. Once you enter your contacts let the people know that you have put them on the list. If you say Alexa Ask my buddy, she will ask you if you want to contact one person or everyone on your list. She will then send them a text and an email.

I cannot answer the question about everyting you say on your phone. I never tried. Someone made the comment that they don't want Alexa listening to everything going on in their house. Alexa shuts down when you are not talking to her. Good Luck. If you have any other questions type @BalletBabe or I can't see that you have asked a question in my notifications. I hope I helped some.

@Perkup They do not interfere with each other. They work alone. You can play one song in the kitchen and a different one in the bedroom. However if you add things to your shopping list, entries from both units go to the same list. The find my buddy would work if you were near your #1 echo or your #2 echo.

As far as removing the fluff on your phone, I don't know what fluff you are talking about. Can you be more specific?
