Although I haven't yet had any problems, I like the idea that packages are not left for thieves.

I do hope that the sites chosen for pick-up have easy parking. I know the nearest UPS near me would be a terrible choice - rarely a space near that store.

An unrelated UPS shipping story. A friend got a great deal on a few pieces of Pfalzgraff and wanted to send them to her daughter. UPS wanted $191 to pack and ship them. She could "save" $50 if she packed them herself. So far she's done neither.

I was not home yesterday to receive 3 QVC packages - all clothing. Usually, the packages are left at my front door. Instead, I received an email from UPS that since I was not home to sign for the packages, they were being re-routed to a Customer Access Point in my neighborhood for pick-up. I would be further notified by email where and when these QVC packages would be available. Well, this morning, 3 emails came in from UPS notifying me to go to a Boost Mobile Repair Store - not far from me - to pick up my packages. Apparently, UPS is trying to curtail packages from being stolen during the holiday season. I have a UPS store in my neighborhood in Westchester County. So I am a little surprised that UPS is using a BOOST MOBILE store for pick-up! Has anyone else here on these boards experienced this!

I hope that doesn't happen here...I really don't want to fetch my product at some local store front..especially since that is what the shopping channels use to sell...that your merchandise comes to your door you don't have to go out and fight the crowds of traffic and people....

I wish they would do that with all my packages. I have never had anthing stolen and we live in a very safe neighborhood, but I would like to just pick them up once a week somewhere. That would be great. I don't like stuff sitting on my porch NOT because of theft, but because people know we are not home if we stay out late, have to be somewhere out of town on short noctice and the neighbors are all gone too, etc. etc.

Well, I guess UPS feels that in the past around Christmas, there has been a lot of theft. I know my local news has featured stories on packages being stolen from porches, etc. So, I guess this is what I will have to deal with now if I am not home. A bit of an inconvenience, but, hopefully, the packages are intact and I can get them quickly - maybe a photo ID will be required!

I paid to have them delivered to me not some place else. I would call UPS & tell them to bring them back by. It's not like they are not in the neighborhood almost daily.

I won't be home tomorrow so UPS better leave my packages on my porch as usual.

There is room between the bench & house to leave packages in the corner that cannot be seen from the street. That's where UPS & USPS puts my packages.

I had to tell the new mailman to put them there because he would put them right in front of my glass storm door where I could hardly open the door. Several times I had to go thru the garage out front to get the heavy packages. Could not believe I had to ask the mailman not to place them in front of my door.

Even though you cannot see them from the street it only takes a thief to see them being delivered to steal them.

I surely have had this happen and it wasn't at Christmas.time. Actually, about last March one of these UPS access points notices was put in my door(this was a first delivery). I discovered the access point to be about 20 or 25 minutes from my home and refused to pick up the item.

When I received my bill from QVC it included both the original cost of shipping the item ($7.95) plus another $7.95 for returning it to the Q. I immediately called QVC and customer service refunded the entire amount to my account. Will say I did have to go back and forth a bit to get this done but CS was most courteous and understanding during the process.

My son,,a driver for UPS told me this has now become a new policy for the Q and other companies but obviously not used all the time as most of my packages are now delivered by the Post Office. He agreed with me this new method is not what we expect when we order an item. Not only is it inconvenient and time consuming but many people order because they are home bound, certainly unable to get out and drive to an access point. Plus the cost for shipping was the same as it would have been if delivered to my home.

This hasn't happened since so I'm crossing my fingers.it won't happen again.

Forgot to mention that I live in a neighbourhood which prohibits entrance by strangers; so we never have thiefs I was inside but didn't even have time to get to the door till the driver was gone.

I track my packages closely and am 99% of the time home when they come. Occasionally when regular driver is off and substitute is lazy they end up centrally.

FedEx and LaserShip totally different story which is why I prefer to avoid them whenever possible.

This is a big reason I have been drawn to do more shopping with HSN. They use UPS for everything I have purchased and they do not transfer to USPS even though they could.

ITA; am buying more from HSN these days.
