The QVC hosts are constantly talking about how cold the studio is. Why? If everyone agrees that it's freezing, why don't they turn up the heat? It doesn't make much sense to me.

It probably has something to do with all of the electronic equipment, cameras and the hot bright lights overhead.

Some of the female hosts dress with their arms and shoulders out with open shoes all year around, even in the winter, so I imagine that it can't be all that cold.

Most offices are cold too as are movie theatres. It's easy to just dress appropriately.

Well, I don't think the tv hosts are concerned about the room temperatures at my house, so I can't think of any reason to be concerned about their working conditions at the Q. At least they have a variety of sweaters and/or jackets to wear to ward off frostbite.

all of the reasons posters have stated and lately with temps hot and humid and 'fall fashion previews' the models would probably be dripping with out cold air. They are always pushing layers = shapers, tops with turtlenecks /cowls/furry vests/ in velour/knits/corduroy/etc. then top with a vest & or coat / fleece lined pants/ spandex --whew!

It can't be THAT cold considering a couple of the hostesses, well Shawn anyway, quite often is in a tube top type dress or beach coverup kind of outfit. Kerstin too sometimes wears things like that so how cold can it be?

1) There are many hot lights and a lot of electrical equipment that shouldn't overheat.

2) Some people are cold ALL the time, some people are too warm ALL the time, and others are in between. It's logical that the hosts who are usually cold anywhere and everywhere would complain about the studio being cold.

I have spent my life working in offices with people who were ALWAYS "freezing" even when it was 90 degrees outside and everyone else was sweating.

Who knows if it actually is... but saying it is gives them a reason to try to feed viewers that steady diet of throws, coats, jackets, sweaters and space heaters...

This is the same effect your talent will experience, to a lesser degree, when working under the lights. So, how cold should it be? It should be cold enough that the talent doesn't sweat. An ideal temperature is at least 68° F for extended periods, but it is not unusual to find studio temperatures as much as 4° F lower. If there is an audience, those audience members can feel uncomfortably cold.

The above is an excerpt from this semi-techinal (but interesting and understandable) article: http://www.tvtechnology.com/miscellaneous/0008/tv-production-spaces-ventilation-systems/259888
