Chains tend to drop departments that are not selling in individual stores.

This happened to me years ago (about 15) at Sears, at the opposite end of the size range - my two closest stores eliminated their Plus Size departments entirely. I had to drive 40 min. to a Sears that still had the dept. I stopped shopping there when the quality tanked. I know that the last time I went to "a" Sears they did have a Plus dept, but not all of them will, depending on what sells in the area.

I'm 5 feet tall and grateful I can sew, also have access to a great tailor if I just don't feel llike tackling something. I'm a size 6, and okay with tops in a regular. 3/4 length sleeves are a dream come true for me. I stick to straight leg pants, because if I have to shorten them even by an inch, you lose the concept of the flair, and I don't like them anyway. I think they tend to make a petite person look dumpy. Be careful of GILI blouses, I had to go up to an 8. The bust bbutton pulled on the 6, not a good look, and her stuff is overpriced anyway. Check Old Pueblo Traders for their Levi's Bend Over pants, they have them in every color, and their petite is a "short" 27" inseam!! A dream come true for me!! They are online or you can request a catalog, pricing is fair too. Happy shopping!!!

MAcy's stores near me are just a hot mess. Clothes all jumbled together so tightly on racks you can't even move them around to see if they have your size. CLothing falling off hangers and lying on the floor. Dirty dressing rooms with hooks falling out of walls. left over clothing in the dressing rooms with not enough help available to remove the clothing left behind and let's not even talk about the quality of the "sales associates" who are not trained to do anything more than stand at the cash registers. THat is if you can even find a sales associate to start with. No training in the merchandise they carry. THey don't even know if they carry a particular brand in the department they are working in and they don't care either. WHatever happens to Macy's they brought it on themselves.

Macys department store seems to be a thing of the past or something. I have been into mine a few (very few) times the past couple of years and they seem to be full of absolutely nothing. Strange really. Clerks no where to be found. Rude clerks found. Out of stock this. Out of stock that. "Find it online" is all their rude clerks are taught these days!!! A shame really - I have spent a pretty penny at Macy's over the years. Not anymore. I do believe I am done with that store. Actually, I know I am!

Online shopping has replaced much of the store traffic at Macy's and many other B&M stores. This creates a lesser need for sales associates and other store employees, so people are laid off. Customer service suffers. As a result, they lose more shoppers in their stores. (I imagine some stores are used as much for returns as they are for purchases). It becomes a vicious cycle.

It's sad to see this happening to Macy's and other retail giants. Unfortunately, it's a sign of the times, as they say...
