Pumpkin Picking

Thanks Leah for finally addressing the "pumpkin picking" suggestion this morning. I don't know about the rest of you but I don't buy a new outfit nor do I dress up when going to purchase a pumpkin. I either buy one at the grocery store or if I do go to a farm, I am dressed in a sweatshirt and jeans...this has always made me laugh when the hosts suggest that you should wear a particular piece of clothing to go "pumpkin picking." Keep it up girls...I'm always up for a laugh!!

I went to a pumpkin patch once a "gazillion" years ago. Don't recall needing a special outfit. These days, I get my pumpkin at my local Trader Joe's!

I've been to that Linvilla Orchards that Leah mentioned. Went there a few times as a teenager and took my son there a couple of times when he was little. I guess it is a regional thing. The reason we go is more than choosing a pumpkin. Its kind of a day trip where you can walk around enjoying the crisp fall weather, stop in a gift store. There's a hayride in back of a pick up truck where adults and their kids pile in. And there was a little train ride that went around the property with scarecrows and pumpkin and gourds displays, and other Autumnal things, set up at points around the track. It's just a nice family day out just strolling about. You're not going to wear an evening gown, but one might want to put on your best casual outfit if you are so inclined.

I didn't watch the show, so have no idea what was said, but seriously, I've never heard a single host say you need a special outfit for pumpkin picking, only that something they are showing would be "appropriate" for that type of activity. Last I checked, you couldn't go pumpkin or apple picking naked.

My family goes to pick out pumpkins every year. It's a fun family activity that we all look forward to, and it's been a tradition since my children were little and now we're up to 9 grandchildren and 7 adults having a great time. Like your pumpkin place, we have hayrides and gift shop. There's a corn maze and even pumpkin chucking contests. The grandkids that are old enough enjoy the pumpkin painting booth. This is at a local dairy farm that also grows pumpkins and Christmas trees and the trip always includes ice cream!

I don't recall ever buying (let alone picking) a pumpkin.

I buy my pumpkin already processsed ... in a can from the grocery store.

I guess that you have never watched JRT with her selling going to the pumpkin patch! She has done this for many years and I have been with the Q for many years! lol

We used to go to Linvilla Orchards in the '50s to buy apples and cider. Best cider in the world, but I don't think they were into pumpkins back in those days. It was a big octagonal stone barn, a very unusual building.

The alternate activity for which you need a special outfit seems to be dog walking. Every coat, jacket or pair of pants, Carolyn touts as being perfect for walking the dog and washable to clean the muddy paw prints.

Ohhhhh yea... I've often heard the hosts, (especially but not only Jane), mention pumpkin picking as the rationale for selling everything from shoes to a new handbag... Why, I absolutely have come to believe that heading out to the local pumpkin patch absolutely requires just the right ensemble, from barn jacket to shoes, to make-up and jewelry...

My local 'pumpkin patches' are usually church yards selling them as a fundraiser or nurseries who might extend their usual wares to include cider, apple butter, Indian corn, gourds and so on... Though I'm sure going to an actual pumpkin patch is fun, I'm not sure it really requires a special get-up...

When our children were small, we would get the overpriced pumpkins at the pumpkin farm. I would also go with their school classes to the pumpkin patch. Now I buy them at the grocery store, they are bigger and cheaper! I didn't and don't wear special clothes for that!!

I would like to see some outfits for making bank deposits, dental/doctor appointments, visiting the library, the waiting room for auto service, and the line for "grand openings of stores, movies, etc."..................... These activities are "big deals" for senior citizens.

Edited to add: Outfits for wakes and funerals (but I originally thought that would be too obvious.)

With a special emphasis on clothing that is appropriate for particular medical tests. For example, if you're having a CT scan or a bone density scan, if nothing you wear has any metal fasteners or trim on it, you can keep your clothes on and not have to don a hospital gown.

But when you do have to get undressed for various exams and tests, pull-on pants and easy pull over your head tops make it go faster.

Lightweight clothing is good for when you're getting weighed. Ditto shoes you can easily step out of before stepping on the scale! Definite selling point they're missing.

PS I've never been pumpkin picking.

@MissBea Me either............just heaving one of those pumpkins over the side of the shopping cart is exhausting............not to mention getting it in and out of the car trunk...............

But not so good for jewelry sales--gotta ditch all the big rings, bracelets, and for sure the statement necklace before stepping on the scale!

Oh, trust me I know they have. Why on earth people get their knickers in a wad over the suggestion of pumpkin picking is beyond me!

I watched AM Style this morning and also heard Leah. She was so cute with her comment about "pumpkin purchasing." Issac even made a little reference too. He said something about him just pointing out what kind of pumpkin he wanted. He called it "pumpkin pointing" and then he giggled. Love Isaac!
