Question about Product Reviews

I have a question about product reviews, specifically when someone leaves a negative review based on incorrect information. Here's the example I've come across. I recently purchased a necklace in sterling silver and loved it, so I came back to repurchase the same necklace in the 14K-yellow-gold-over-sterling version. When I got to the page for the necklace I noticed mostly 4 and 5 star reviews with a few lower reviews mixed in. I always like to look at the reviews to see what people dislike about an item so I started reading. While a few of the lower reviews where because of damaged/broken necklaces, a couple people actually gave 1-star reviews because they said they were mad at paying almost $100 for "fake silver" when they thought they were getting real sterling silver. Now here's the kicker, the product description clearly states the necklace is .925 sterling, the on-air presentations stated it's .925, the video states its .925, even the necklace is stamped .925. This upset me that the necklace was taking a hit rating-wise because people were, frankly, too stupid to realize what they were buying and what they had received. I reported the reviews and said I felt they should be removed for all the reasons I just listed but that was over a week ago and as of this morning the reviews are still up. Am I the only one that thinks this isn't fair? Just wondering what others thought...

True lol. I've learned to disregard the truly insane reviews and not use them to form an opinion if I'm on the fence about a product but I think it takes it to a whole new level when someone actually posts INCORRECT information. That just blew my mind that QVC wouldn't delete it. It would be no different than if someone ordered a Vitamix and wrote a 1-star review that said "Dont waste your $400, all they send you is a broken bicycle pump." Surely QVC sees why this is not fair to those products lol.

These reviews are really frustrating. I recently read review where someone rated a facial cleansing balm very low because it was a terrible moisturizer and too greasy. Well, it's not a moisturizer, so....

Other times the person has quite obviously reviewed the wrong item. Sometimes I see things like "This bag is lovely and the leather is so soft! on a pair of denim jeans or a skincare product. I DO report those reviews, good or bad, and ask to have them removed because it's the wrong product. But I'm afraid there's not much we can do if it's the right product and the person writing the review is not the brightest crayon in the box.

I know!! To me there should be some sort of criteria where if you clearly aren't reviewing the correct item or if you don't even know the correct info about it, then you don't get to play the review game

The facial cleansing balm made me chuckle. I'm sure that felt nice and tacky as the day wore on...

It is frustrating to read incorrect reviews--both negative AND positive reviews. I have read 4 star reviews on a product where the person writes, "I can't wait to get this"

they are reviewing it and they haven't even gotten it yet! I have also read reviews good and bad, where it is clear it is the wrong product. and yes, reviews complaining about an aspect of the product that was clearly described in the presentation and online description. I guess it is par for the course with reviews--I don't go by just the average star rating; I read the reviews themselves and always take things with a grain of salt.

I have found that I have to read the reviews before ordering when in doubt. Customer top rating does not always mean anything. Why give a product 5 stars when the sizing is off, product is broken/torn,missing buttons, etc. The explanation for the 5 stars often is because they like the designer and hate to give a low rating for the nice person. [One designer asks for reviews and facebook comments but at the same time says "be nice"] I thought we were giving honest reviews of the item purchased, not our opinion of a persons personality. Everyone, including the designer, needs to know if there is a problem. The designer may be able to correct sizing, etc on future orders The reader can decide if the problem is one that should concern their purchase. I can be swayed by length issues and bad names for colors. Many things are made for tall models and are to long for me so I like to see a "to short" problem. I am getting tired of alteration charges. I like it when we are told during the show that a color does not match its QVC name. I look for ways to help me make a purchase I will like and it fits. I use the forum to get information to give me food for thought on purchases. If we give honest reviews we can help others. It will make QVC and all of us much happier when there are fewer returns.

It's not limited the QVC. Amazon has gotten bad press more than once over the years for bogus paid review rings, and claims to really care about it and be ever-vigilant these days.

There is a new camera model that was shipped March 27, which was *Easter Sunday.* I had been waiting for reviews. A review was posted MARCH 29 (stretching even Prime delivery) which read "Great product would buy from again." I reported it. A genuine reviewer posted a genuine review on April 3 (time to have received it and taken a day or two's worth of shots) and he also reported the review to Amazon. It still stands. It's a completely bogus, meaningless "5-star" review. Reviewer #1 could have been reviewing a toothbrush or tinkertoys - less than 24 hrs after the earliest it was shipped.

Oh yeah, they're hot on the trail, just like QVC.

I can only imagine how many reviews fall into this category but don't have the disclosure I read inbetween the lines of reviews on most websites.

And also there is a subset of people who write 'witty' Amazon reviews for pure entertainment purposes OR those who write reviews to make a statement that actually doesn't have anything to do with the actual product (e.g. reviews on books by politicians, etc)
