Why does QVC find it necessary to promote the same products over and over...example: Dell, Wen, Dooney and Bourke, Temptations, Susan Graver (with her obnoxious loud voice and behavior) etc. Are these all products from the past that have not been big sellers and they are cleaning out their inventory?? I had to change the channel when I noticed that Kristen was "selling" the TSV (probably an old model)..it would only have been worse if Courtney was "selling" it.

QVC (a retailer in business to make money -- not alleviate our boredom) airs the items on which it makes signifivant profit margins ultiple times because millions of people tune in throughout the day at different times. To garner the most sales, QVC must air items repeatedly.

Despite what some people on these board seem to think, not everyone watches televison on the same schedule as others. As we all have multiple channels available to us as well as the compendium of the worrld's knowledge right at our fingertips, perhaps one should move on to other things if boredom sets in.

Somedays seem like QVC is heading into being nothing more than an infomercial. The presentations for a TSV like Dell, or Wen, or Vitamix are so long.

I do agree! Long boring hours and hours of awful programing. Philosophy with the bowl of soap suds....looking at a bed or computer....listening to that racket made by the overpriced blender...It cosmetics and the Vendor with the too tight dress on....oh and not to forget overpriced ripoff Dooney Bags for endless hours. Only to name a few.

Although there is no way to prove it, I think QVC is selling air time with the use of their hosts to companies for infomercial types of advertising. Just look at WEN...anytime of the day or night you can find what seems like endless advertising on cable and satellite TV. Money seems to be no object where this company and advertising are concerned. Most of these, the most boring and repetitious of presentations, are on week-ends. Whether or not this is prime time for advertisers, I don't know but it could be.

All I know is that I personally get really sick of it, especially some of them. I'd rather take a beating than watch a session of WEN or Philosophy, and yes, the TV is off today.

I think not watching QVC all the time is a good idea.

I also think every single shopping channel shows only what they think will sell and make them a profit. If they don't find the right combination of products they will disappear from the retail landscape. Like Gimbels and Altmans and A&S and Stern's and Gertz and so many others that never found a way to survive.

I give QVC lots of credit for day after day finding products to sell that 50,000+ consumers want - and that's often just the TSV.

Still, I have no doubt I'd be bored if I watched hour after hour. I know there's practically nothing I could binge watch that wouldn't bore me after the third hour. No reason for me to watch QVC for a gazillion hours any more than I'd spend that many hours in any department store in the neighborhood.

This just popped in my mind as I was reading these posts. Who remembers in the beginning years:

1) Product only shown for a certain time with "special" pricing for on-air presentation. If you didn't order then the price went up!

2) Waiting patiently for the TSV with a real price reduction. Goodness if any host let out that TSV secret before the stroke of mid nite!

3) Real Quality Value Convenience!!!! Not hundreds of thousands of that item mass produced .... I still have many pieces of Capodomonte limited pieces made at special prices and perfect quality NOT like now...hit or miss!

4) The excitement of Big Silver Day (in those crazy costumes), kitchen day, Susan Graver (when she was "humble" and reasonably prices), Models Prefer cosmetics, oh and Collectors Day...best sick days for me (oops vacation days) off from work with my girlfriends watching these fun days!

I just spent a few days with my niece and her friends (26yr old) I asked them if they shop Q or other shopping channels they said "What is that???"

oh the good ole' days of QVC as I remember them!!! Just like finding one of my children's passes to DisneyWorld from 1995 a 4 day pass was $77 and from 1985 where they had tear out ticket books for the rides - that 4 day pass was $33!!

gotta love the good ole days!

I fully agree with you, OP and have for some time. There's always been a certain 'consistency', to put it nicely, around what QVC offers, but in recent years, the limited product mix and redundancy are just glaring and off-putting. The resident QVC cheering section would have us believe it's our fault, because we watch too much. Not true. I hardly watch at all and the incessant repetition of the same handful of brands is a big reason why. Watching daily, weekly monthly... whatever, one has a pretty good idea of the limited brands and products one can expect to see scheduled for presentation.

While it's true QVC likely tries to cast as wide a net as possible to ensure as many people see the limited array of products presented, this still doesn't mean they need to present an item every hour on the hour for a minimum fifteen minute, usually longer, presentation, nor does it mean five and six hour long shows devoted to a single item are strictly necessary. It certainly doesn't mean this is anyone's idea of entertaining programming. And before we naysayers are reamed out for saying so, yes, even QVC's corporate types like to put it out there that part of QVC's mission is to entertain.

That same cheering section would also have us believe 'the Q shows what sells', as if in the entire annals of retail marketing, these same ten or so brands are literally the only items ever to sell in volume and make a profit... I really don't think so.

I agree with Kachina. I think that in addition to direct marketing products to customers, QVC has also landed itself in the business of offering air time and hosting services to vendors and is as much in the business of producing infomercials as it is anything else.

Regardless, for the past several years it's become increasingly uninteresting, and has now almost fully arrived at being completely unwatchable. And before anyone suggests changing the channel, be advised, there's no need to. My television is rarely tuned to QVC these days in the first place.

Aside from seasonal items I'd like to know what brick and morter stores have different things in them everytime you go in? Even ChefsCatalog and Williams Sanoma and several other catalogs I get basically have the same thing in everyone I get.

I know people get tired of the "Change the channel" spiel, but really what else is there to say? People are so offended by the silliest things. Unless they are on ITKWD I don't even know who people are talking about.

I don't disagree that even there they sell the same thing over and over, but they are reaching millions of customers, not the small amount of people a physical store reaches in comparison. Watch another shopping channel and see how long it's on before you see repeats over and over.

I agree...if I see IT cosmetics again I will scream...seems all they want to sell now is ultra high end items....I'm not a size 2 and am tired seeing clothes for tiny people. Also tired of seeing hosts wearing strapless or bare shoulders in the middle of winter and vice versa...

Some of these shows do seem like they are vendor-sponsored infomercials. The vendor takes over for most of the show and the presentation is highly scripted with lots of demo videos. The host takes the second position and is there to ask prescripted questions and give updates on numbers sold. Maybe vendor-purchased air time is part of the business model now. I dislike it, so after a few minutes to see what is on, I move on to doing something else. It must be profitable but I wonder how many viewers they lose that might stick it out for the next item if they didn't have to see an hour of footage on vacuum and mattress inerds.

There's no denying things have changed and for viewers, not for the better. Even as recently as five years ago, there was a good bit more variety offered, more of a mix on-air, more brands from which to select, very different host behaviors and an overall different feel to watching QVC.
