Is QVC becoming The Food Channel?

Gourmet Holiday almost daily? It used to be something special to look forward to (even though I would not pay the exorbitant prices) but now it's on practically every day. Just another food show, not special anymore. Food must be a big seller for QVC. Just my observation.

It used to be just around the hoildays as my memory recalls, hence the name "Gourmet Holiday". Now it is all the time, just as you mentioned.

I think it has. When I watch on line more often than not 3 of the 4 choices are selling food. Very expensive food.

It is not necessarily the food that is expensive. The cost includes express shipping to your door in a large styrofoam container filled with dry ice. That adds considerably to the price and, for many people and for various reasons, that convenience makes the cost acceptable. These consumers all likely know that the QVC price exceeds the typical grocery store cost. This has been posted by many others but "the high cost of Q food" frequently pops up in various posts and seems to have a life of its own. Your money, your choice.

No. They actually cook on The Food Channel.

I have seen no real cooking on QVC (save for some Le Creuset presentations) in many, many, many years.

It seems like more and more food shows are on...so very expensive. I have never bought nor will I ever...Mark up on the stuff is incredible.

I agree there are a LOT of food presentations. Personally, I feel they are a bit too pricey. I've bought a few in the past and they were good, but I just don't feel like paying the high prices.

@ellaphant Thanks for your post about nutrition. 'I am especially concerned about sodium and look for frozen foods with the lowest sodium count and then stretch it out and eat only small portions of it at a time.

I think we are seeing reorganizing and restructuring.

It's hours and hours of D&Co., Susan Graver, Kim Gravel and food.

Lots of old clothes and much fewer spring fashion.

Scaring customers away!

@Q-Checker I agree with you 100% about the bundled costs of coolers, dry ice, and "free shipping" boosting the food prices but it's still hard to swallow when you see 10 burgers for $100 or something similar. I get tired of always seeing so many food shows, mostly all the same stuff, and certain hosts gross me out with the quantity of food they "taste" and BBQ sauce on and under their nails when they present after eating Corky's!

It does seem they are having more than usual but I'm guessing it's about the entertaining season coming. I appreciate the heavy styrofoam containers many are shipped in, not just in QVC. I use them for storing my Christmas decorations! If you purchase food online, there is usually a big cost added for shipping. QVC just adds it into the cost and touts it as "free shipping". There really is nothing free, nowadays more than ever. I think they sell so much because of convenience. Not many "busy mothers" cook from scratch and are looking for things that they can fix quickly or the kids can fix for themselves. If they weren't making money off their food, they surely wouldn't be having it on so much. It's also good for people who don't have families and don't want to spend time at the stove when we can just pop something out the freezer. Not anything you would want to eat 100% of the time, mainly for health reasons eating processed food, but I will pay their prices if it's something I cannot get locally.

Along with a handful of fashion brands, food and beverage offerings are likely what has been keeping QVC alive for the past few years. And they are obviously leaning on it strongly during this crucial time period.

With virtually every item shipped directly from the vendor, there is no delivery and transportation into and out of a QVC Group warehouse and the majority of products are domestic, not imported (with some exceptions of course.)

It's a terrific way to amass cash with little direct upfront expense for The Group.

I hope Q does! It is the majority of what my family and I purchase from Q. I would say we are 80% food items and 20% misc. I can't really find any fault when watching the Q with their food shows, as opposed to fashion/makeup/misc sales. Maybe, it's the food that is keeping them barely above water, although they are swimming in debt, so that is an oxymoron statement, LOL!

There are plenty of options that are not anything you mentioned.

Today's guidlines now say fat is not the enemy anyways.

At one time on one of the forums was a breakout of where their biggest profits come from. I believe it was food and electronics.

ALSO, with Easter, Mother's Day and summer holidays starting up soon they are getting a jump start.

All about the bottom line.
