Reports show they are working with advisors on how to handle over $6 billion in debt, and Chapter 11 is one option being discussed. Declining viewership, stock losses, and multiple layoffs mean QVC cannot survive by staying the same. Reorganization is possible, but it will require real change.

Reports show they are working with advisors on how to handle over $6 billion in debt, and Chapter 11 is one option being discussed. If they do file, they would continue operating, but they would have to reorganize and make major changes to stay relevant. Declining viewership, stock losses, and multiple layoffs mean QVC cannot survive by staying the same. Reorganization is possible, but it will require real change.

Which is exactly what I said.

Reorganization and Reconstruction.

Sheesh!

A lot more than getting rid of "dead wood!"

I have always said they need to dump the extra channels, easy cuts right there. (PS, same with HSN who does not even put live broadcasts on HSN2).

Speaking as a non-accountant, they really need to decide if you want to compete with the "Am-zons" of the world, free shipping or some kind of club fee to get perks (without some specific store credit card) is going to be necessary. If they are not going this route, they need to get rid of stock, and streamline. There are thousands and thousands of items on the website that never see airtime. And I get that, however that also means all that product is stored wasting space somewhere. Get rid of it asap. They know what sells and what does not. Fire sale it, and eliminate waste.

Their corporate types should use LEAN practices, or some other corporate streamline strategies where the first step is Eliminating Waste. Second step, what is the Value the Customer expects (is it cost of product? quality materials? is it more variety? and so on). And, they need to continually improve. There is more to it without boring everyone, but LEAN or Sixsigma is used all over corporate and not-so corporate industries, like Construction for example. It requires an actual dedicated commitment from Q, and buy-in from it's vendors, suppliers, and the whole team who provides the services to us, the Customer.

As a retired corporate executive, I could list a dozen easy things they could do to help save themselves. One would think someone on the Board of Directors or Executive Board would recognize the same things. Instead, Q insists on doing the same old, same old, but expecting different results.

Making real changes will be hard for people who haven't made any in many years.

The purpose of Chapter 11 is to restructure, reduce and eliminate unsecured debt.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

The $3 billion credit facility due in October is secured, so those banks get paid first, one way or the other, even if liquidation and dissolution and sale of every asset is necessary!

The "changes" suggested aren't going to stop October from happening. But there are always hopes and a dream.

I am almost certain that JP Morgan doesn't want a business model return to 1980s cable-centric broadcasting. The young bankers in charge of Revolving Credit Facility loans probably don't even know what QVC is.
