Are You Buying Fewer Food Items Lately?

I've been watching the Gourmet Holiday program. Is it just me, or has the pricing gotten out-of-hand? I like the idea that the S&H is included, but that's more than compensated for in the price of the goods. Most of the offerings are now in the range of $50 and up. I think many of us don't have large families, so we don't need bulk quantities of nuts, candy, pastries, dinner items, etc.-- nor do we have room to store them.

I wish the Q would offer the option of smaller quantities at lower prices. I, for one, would be buying more if that were the case.

I just never have been a good food buyer, not because of the prices but because of the quantities. It's sort of like going to Costco - I buy food there pretty much only when I'm entertaining. Otherwise --coffee, oatmeal in the big commericial box, and occasionally some fruit.

I feel as if lots of food prices skyrocketed this summer, so the prices here wouldn't keep my awat.

I don't buy food on the Q. I just can't justify the prices. I have tried a few of the products, because my mother has ordered a few things. I have not tried any of their food that I would deem to be exceptional. You can find similar quality products for way less money at your grocery store. The only item that is priced fairly comparable to what you would pay in a store is the wine.

P.S. - When you have to buy your dessert on Easy Pay . . . . . . .

If it tasted better, maybe. I've tried some things here and there (those earlier crab cakes, even Junior's cheesecake, maybe there was something else, but I don't remember), but didn't like any of it enough to finish it. Most of it got thrown away.

Hi handy...I've never had any food product shipped to me from any outlet...not that I never would, but I'm with you, Q prices are too high and quantity too much.

I have purchased alot of food from QVC over the last 8-10 yrs. I stopped buying most over 2 yrs ago. Their prices have gone way to high. When they want you to buy a cake, one cake, for over $50 that is more than crazy. I stilll buy the BChez crab balls because they are the best I have found so far. They are expensive but they are my splurge since I am the only one that eats them and one can make a meal for me. I find it hard to believe they still have enough people paying their prices for the food products that they can still sell them.

Not buying less. Have never bought much food from QVC. Some of it looks good, but the prices are ridiculous. Not saying I never well, but so far I haven't and don't see that changing.

I don't buy much food...the last I bought was the two My Grandmas coffee cakes....they were delicious...

Long ago I had bought Corky's ribs and Juniors cheesecake...both were very good...but the food has gotten too expensive...so I buy locally....other then the coffee cakes...

I've never bought food from any TV shopping show. I live close to many very nice grocery, market stores. I buy locally.

the pricing on food items has always been out of hand and very few things IMO have lived up to the presentation. I used to buy the Cheryl's cookies for holidays - they were a nice gift for the "office" but I haven't done that in several years now.

Quite honestly, I buy less of everything from QVC these days. I find the products they are selling to be overpriced, uninspired and in the case of clothing, sizing is an issue. Yesterday from another clothing company, I ordered 2 pairs of slacks & a skirt (for the current fashion year - not retreads from years past) with a25% discount off the entire order plus free shipping. And I know the items will fit. QVC can't even get close to that.

Within the last year I'm buying next to no food items [compared to buying several favorites in years past]. QVC has made me a more thoughtful shopper -- I now always wonder if it's already out in the stores. The food items I liked best -- French croissants, potstickers, sweet potato casserole -- I found elsewhere. The manufacturer distributes those same potstickers to several retailers -- done. A French bakery opened 5 miles from me -- done. Thanks to QVC and their many cookbooks, I now make a better sweet potato casserole than the one I used to buy frozen -- done and done.

Now if only I could get off the fence regarding those chocolate covered pretzels -- anyone?

They sure look good, although l can't give a review, as l haven't tried them. But, like everything else here, they probably can be found elsewhere for less $$$.

I live in a major metropolitan area with a major foodie reputation so I really have no need to order food from QVC. This may not be true for others who have more limited options. I have to chime in on this topic as I channel surfed through QVC the other day when a food show was on. The host was selling crab cakes. $207 dollars for 20 5oz cakes??????? Are you kidding me? That's $10.35 per cake! As P.T. Barnum said, there's one born every minute.

The only food item I have ever bought is Mrs. Prindable's apples to give as gifts at Christmas. QVC's food is grossly over-priced. I can get potstickers, spiral-cut hams, KIND bars, etc. FAR cheaper at my local stores or at Trader Joe's, even can get KIND bars from zulily. And my supermarket now carries Corky's - we used to have a Corky's restaurant but it closed after a very short time.

And I bought Junior's cheesecake cookbook so that I can make them myself at a much cheaper price.

I have never purchased food from the Q .. and I never will. The prices are outrageous. I can purchase similar items in my local supermarket or other B & M stores at considerably lower prices.

I live in NYC and also have so many grocery and specialty groceries within walking distance, but I love the Southwestern Tilipia that is offered on the Q. There are only two of us and it is very taste, easy to fix and my hubby loves it for lunch with fried and a salad. Many times I buy fresh hoagie buns and we just have big sandwiches using it! I just can't justify paying $40.00 for two Grandma's cakes or whatever the name is. The other items are so expensive now that I don't bother to even watch the shows. Everything, especially fashion items, are waaaaaay too expensive on the Q now. I can walk up to Macy's and buy much cheaper sweaters, jeans, jackets, etc. I shop online a lot nowadays even living here in Manhattan. I will say that I love Isaac's clothing and shoes on the Q.

It's rare that I buy food items from QVC and the high cost is the major reason. KIND bars and the caramel apples are about all I've ever gotten. They were good, but I can no longer justify the cost.
