Host's descriptions

First, no adult should refer to any item as super duper. This isn't professional at all. Secondly, the over the top superlatives used by some hosts just turn me off. I've purchased things they've raved about and was disappointed. This is why I don't trust a host who does that.

The OP has a choice to not watch, not buy or not listen. Their literal job requires them to use superlatives as a salesperson. I also never buy anything a Host tells me they have purchased; buyer beware if you, or anyone, is falling for that old trick.

Maybe it really is Super-Dooper and the term was applied appropriately.

If you’re counting on completely honest and tempered superlatives, you’re shopping on the wrong medium. I won’t defend “super duper” but in general, ignore ALL hyperbole by the hosts and brand reps.

I look at the item presented, listen for what they “don’t say about it particularly,” and also look online.

You’ll never get through one presentation without hearing it’s the absolute best ever created, or tears forming from a painted cardinal on a mug.

You’re in charge of what you’ll believe. Sales is sales. Enjoy shopping!

I would bet that they (hosts) are told what to say. After all they are acting! I think the Q is a marketing driven company.

I agree with this, but I think they need a new marketing company. I know many ad agencies quite well and can recommend several.

I think they need to come up with some different words. I get tired of hearing Shawn say "that's just sick" when describing something in a good way.

I have found each and every host will overuse a certain phrase or word, my least favorite "P.S. and by the way". That just rubs me the wrong way.

However, I don't mean this in a derogatory way but whenever the hosts presenting starts bugging me a bit, I know I'm watching QVC too much. I watch bits and pieces through the day but I can tell when I'm annoyed by their spiel I need to limit my viewing.

Honestly, I think anyone, regardless of who, would get annoying if you had to sit and listen to them talk non-stop for three hours. I would probably be annoyed with myself if I was a host.

I did have a job that I had to speak non-stop for an hour at a time. We watched ourselves on video in order to improve and this was very helpful. You realize then how often you use the same word or phrase. It would be nice if the hosts were required to do this so they could improve their vocabulary. I enjoy watching almost every host but in limited amounts.

And heaven forbid, do not rely on everything a host says when they are selling a product. I do listen to what they say, I check the decription on the website, read reviews and then do a little research. And remember, what works for some may not work for you.

Do you really think they don’t tape and watch themselves? These are people with giant egos in public roles. If they keep repeating certain phrases, it’s probably because they like how they sound.

@manny2 No, they don't watch themselves. It was mentioned on one of Shawn's interviews. I forget who but they indicated they weren't evaluated every year but they could get "scolded" or something like that if they said something wrong. Now, I'm not sure if they meant scolded by TPTB or the viewing audience.

I don't believe they like the sound of their own phrases. However, I do agree that some have ego's. If their sales are up I don't think they feel the need to take time to watch themselves and try to improve. It's pretty obvious when hosts continue using the same words over and over. But again, I found myself doing it when evaluted so it's a hard thing to correct.

@cjm61 they may not watch themselves as part of an evaluation with the supervisors, but I believe they have or do watch some of their broadcasts on QVC. Whether they DVR their shows or catch themselves during a re-airing of their shows, I'm sure they do.

Let’s be real, you don’t land a QVC hosting gig without a healthy dose of self-awareness and media literacy. Whether they love it or cringe, they’re watching.

I believe they either watch themselves or read the forums at at least one certain host because she will deliberate do more of the things that are complaints about her.....literally.....JMO

Any public personality, including a QVC host, is totally aware of public perception. They likely review comments here and dozens of other internet sites.

But it doesn't matter. If product moves out of the warehouse while they are on air, they are golden, regardless of what is said here.

So basically, you can vent all you desire, which is wonderful, but it won't move the needle a tiny fraction of an inch.

QVC Group is just not that into you.

I agree. QVC operates in dollars and cents, not sentiment. Hosts who convert stay, no matter how polarizing. So, vent away on the boards if it helps, but if you want change, don’t purchase. That’s the only language they understand.
