Do you have a cell?

The other day we had to go somewhere and were told when we got there to call a certain number. The assumption was we had a cell (We do). Hubbs made the comment that so many places think EVERYONE has a cell.

I thought that was an interesting observation.

We no longer have a landline, only cell phones. Also, I wouldn't think of getting in my car without my phone...pay phones are a thing of the past, so a cell is a safety thing!

I don't think I know anyone who doesn't have a cell phone.

I agree with @vermint. Don't know anyone who doesn't have a cell phone. In this day and age, it's a must.

I live in a dead zone and have VOIP at home. Have a cheap Tracfone® in the car in case of a dead battery or a flat tire. NO "smart phone".

I do not have a cell phone. Do not need to stay "attached" to anyone if I go out.

@Janey2 What if you have a flat tire or an accident and are alone? A cell phone could be a lifesaver!

Maybe in a town/city someone could help you, but we live in a more rural area, and once we turn off the highway, we have a 12-mile stretch were there is NOTHING but some widely spaced houses. There are also a number of spots where, if we were to go off the road, it's possible we wouldn't be seen for many hours.

I have a cell phone but not a "smart phone." A couple of years ago when I went to the Art Institute here in Chicago, the docent wanted to check me in via a smart phone. I told her I didn't have one. She figured out another way to check me in--LOL!!! I dread the day--and it's coming--when a smart phone will be required for everything.

I once asked someone what would happen if she lost her smart phone. She looked horrified!!!

I'm a dinosaur, I do have a smart phone and I also have a landline . . . I keep saying I'm getting rid of the landline, and my friends always laugh about it. The phone number is the original number I had in my business since 1976 and I just hate to cut that line off.
We have to carry cells because we are often away in the motorhome and use them to keep in touch with family and friends. When we formally retire most likely DH will no long have his since it is the company's. Verizon had a program wireless home phone, it was terrific. When we went away I picked up my desktop phone and took it with me in the camper!

I would not be without my cellphone. It is a great piece of mind for when I am out and about. If my car breaks down, if something should happen when I am out, not to mention appointments now want you to check in using a cellphone. Plus I like just have to text for a question and not have to talk on the phone for long periods of time. Not to mention a must for traveling.

I got my first cellphone in '94 or '95 - I had to travel some for work and got it for that reason. I have the same number. I've had an iPhone since about 2009. Got rid of my landline in 2018 or '19. Got a Tracfone as a backup about 3 years ago.

I agree it's assumed everyone has a cellphone. I love texting for many reasons. It's so handy.

I have a smart phone, my original number probably since early to mid 90's. I moved back to my childhood home, and I now have that landline number that my parents had since I was born. My landline is in with my xfinity package, and if I cut the landline, my package price would be higher (yes, checked twice). Not hurting anything having it. It rarely ever rings.

I have friends (some in their 90's) that still have cell phones, however some do not have computers.

Yes I do have a cell. Think I got my first around 1989 or so. Would not be without one.

Now I am old, I love the emergency call feature on my iPhone.

@lynnie61 When I dropped my landline from my Xfinity bundle my bill only went down about $5.

Even if you don't think you need a cell phone, you do. You need it for messages from medical providers, financial institutions and so on.

You need it so you can be tracked if you get in trouble while you are out or get lost or maybe pass out in your car or have an accident, etc.

You need it for safety if you are older and need to contact someone to help you. Don't be too proud and stubborn to get one and learn to use it for the basics.

It could save your life. It could save your loved ones and friends a mountain of trouble and worry. Don't be contrary! Get yourself a cell phone. I hate mine, but I also need it and wouldn't want to be without it.

Or sell your car and get a horse and buggy!
