QVC to lay off 900 in Florida

I live in the Philadelphia television market where QVC headquarters is located. I just saw on the local news that QVC will be laying off 900 employees. They said all indications is that those employees will be at the HSN location in Florida that is closing and relocating to PA. At this time QVC did not say if the PA location would be adding new jobs.

I think that's inevitable. If people are unable or unwilling to relocate to PA, they are going to be laid off. It happens all the time in any industry. Sad but true.

March 27, 2025: QVC Group today reorganized teams across our company as part of our strategy to grow by becoming a live social shopping company. Through our WIN growth strategy, we intend to increase revenue while maintaining adjusted OIDBA margin. We are pursuing three priorities:

Inspiring People and Products: Create the world’s leading live social shopping content engine, inspiring human connection with incredible finds
New Ways of Working: Lean into technology and continuous improvement to fund expansion onto new platforms and into new audiences

As a result of this reorganization, we made the very difficult decision to eliminate a number of roles. In the U.S., this impacts approximately 900 team members across HSN, QVC US and our Global Shared Services. For many of these individuals, today will be their last day with QVC Group. Some will continue working with us for several months, mainly to support the transition of the HSN broadcast and the St. Petersburg campus.

In our international markets, we are proposing several organizational changes. We will be sharing the detail with potentially affected individuals and, where applicable, engaging in negotiations with relevant employee representation bodies, in accordance with local laws. If consultation processes are required in a QI market, no changes in that market will be effective until those processes are completed.

We are committed to supporting impacted team members through this transition with separation benefits and outplacement services. Our immediate focus is supporting those directly affected by these changes.

Yes, but how many in the St Pete area so people dont have to leave their homes.

I'm thinking the majority of the layoffs are talented individuals. Hopfully it gave them time to consider what to do.

Fast food? Nurses aids? Jobs in anyway comparable to the previous salary? I am not just concerned about QVC employees

@PA Mom-mom Absolutely! I'm very familiar with both locations and may state categorically that I would resign (or be fired) rather than move from Tampa, FL to West Chester PA.

However, to those HSN hosts who are in the prime of their careers, and the loss of their income would make a profound impact on their families, I fully understand that would be a top priority in deciding whether to make the move.

The population of the Tampa/St.Pete/Clearwater MSA, as defined by the Census Bureau, is a little over 3.4 MILLION people. Addiitionally, the North Port/Bradenton/Sarasota MSA about 40 miles to the south is one of the top 10 fastest growing MSA's in the country. I know people who commute both for jobs in Tampa and in the Sarasota area every day.

900 jobs is a drop in the bucket in a population this size. It may be a bit more challenging for those with specific, broadcast related skills (camera operators, producers, etc). to find a similar jobs in the area. Those with skills & experience in supply chain management, accounting, finance, etc, will probably find something a bit quicker. It's not the gloom and doom y'all are making it out to be.

I, along with roughly 2000 of my colleagues (a conservative estimate), was permanently laid off by a Fortune 100 company a little over 20 years ago after the 3 rounds of M&A in which we ended up being the acquired company. In an area our size of about 250,000 people, it was thought to be a disaster. It wasn't. We all survived and the area is still thriving. As an executive, I knew from the day the deal was announced that I'd be doing something else within 6 months of the deal closing, and I was. Reorganizations and elimination of redundant positions have been cost cutting tools for decades, and will be for decades to come. It's business.

Are you aware of how many people have lost their jobs recently in the whole country, @TheWanderingOne? Where will all of those workers find new spots? The QVC layoffs are sad but more normal business practices.
