Speaking of which, DH just pulled mine out of the basement this week. We had temps in the low 40's and high 30's, and my little lantern style Duraflame heater is such a joy in the morning!

Likewise, I've been using my lantern style for a couple of weeks now since the chillier temps have arrived. It makes the room so toasty and beats heating the whole house! I will be watching on 10/26. I'm thinking of gifting one to my mother-in-law.

@BostonJosie HSN already did a Duraplame tsv. And from someone else's post, looks like Rick with be presenting one here soon.

My sister has had one of these for years. She tucked it in the hearth of a non-working fireplace she has in her finished basement. Puts out the heat, looks great, makes you feel warm and toasty too. I'd love to have one. for my living room.

I recommend the Duraflame Electric Log Set w/Crackle Sound, I purchased one about 6-7 years ago and love it. The previous owner of our house had installed a fake corner fireplace in the den and this insert fits perfectly, it gives warmth and ambiance to the room. You can turn the crackle sound on and off if you choose. In SoCal it does not get too cold, I use it maybe 2-3 months out of the year. My purchase was similar to H456516 and it has been worth it.

@PINKdogWOOD I have one in living room, love it. I bought some 16" brick pavers from Home Depot to put under it - makes it higher and more "real".

I've had one several years, mainly used January-March. I love it. It was about the same price as I've seen it in stores like Home Depot or Sam's. Wasn't sure if those stores were Duraflame brand though. I'm curious to see the TSV price and model.

I do have a question. Some of the models have the vent on the top and some on the bottom. My dog likes to lay in front of vents so wondering if the higher vent would be better and would the amount of heat be the same. My patio door drapes don't seem to be as low as they use to be and the cold air make the room cooler. My kitchen and family room is one big room so it seems to not heat as well since I got a newer heat pump and furnace. The new heat pump cycles more but I can turn just the furnace on if I want to do a quick heat up in the morning. I've read reviews on Duraflame and they are good. Just want it warmer in this area. I could put it in my fireplace since I don't use it. I just had my heat pump and furnace checked a few weeks ago so it's working properly. When it rains there is always more of a chill in the area and we do get a lot of rain. I even have thought of putting up a wall between the rooms and having a nice arch doorway put in. Loved it when kids were small but now not so much.

I've thought about this item before but there is no outlet close enough to plug it in. Also, doesn't it look odd having a cord running along the side?

I have had one for 5-6 years. I use it in the room I stay in most of the day with the door closed. I set the central heat fairly low and stay cozy in the closed room.

Of course if people are here I just turn the thermostat up!

When this one dies I will replace it ASAP. It's old enough now that I am going to check out the 10/26 offer to see if I might want to buy it just in case.

SoCal Bred I did look at the one you mentioned but I think going for a taller one would be better. Am thinking about using it in a bedroom also if the heating system failed. Right now I worry about the power going off. It goes off several times starting about this time of the year. The longest has been a week. Hope I remember how to get the generator going. If I had gas heat I would just get a generator to turn on automatically when the power goes off.

@kismet - I just gave that item# as an example and the similarity of the one that I purchased several years ago, since our fake fireplace is somewhat small, I took the measurements prior to make sure the insert would fit and it was perfect, as mentioned we only use it 2-3 months out of the year we also have central heating if we need to turn the heat up but not too often just to get the chill out..

I have had several Duraflame heaters. In my experience, the ones with the heating element at the top is more efficient. The way the air is pulled in and the resulting heat output seems to circulate better. Would not go back to one with the output on the bottom. There's a big difference between the two.

I thought the higher vent would be better also. My dog will lay in front of it if it's lower and block the heat. Also, I have carpeting and feel better with the vent up higher. When I go to the show on my xfinity guide for the duraflame it does show a heater but not sure that's the one for the TSV. It has a vent on the bottom. I did purchase an oil heater recommended by a neighbor and it's on wheels but worry the dog will knock it over. I kept the heat on 67 overnight, it's too warm for sleeping, and turned it up later and it seems to be keeping it warmer in here.

I did buy the TSV but for a gift. It wasn't what I wanted so guess I'll have to get mine in this area. How is the customer service at Duraflame, anyone have to use it?

I just bought a Dreo space heater. It's small but powerful. I'm amazed that something this small can heat my big family room in minutes.

It's on Amazon listed as Dreo Space Heater for Indoor use, 16" tall, fast heating, portable heater with remote, PTC Ceramic Electric, 12H timer, 70% oscillation, Overheat protection, safety heat, 1500W.

I used a different brand last year and it saved me a ton of money in utility bills. The Dreo is more efficient so I'm hoping for even more savings this year.
