Constructive Comments

I'm an occassional contributor, but I've noticed that if a contribution is seen as negative somebody will accuse the writer of griping and suggest they don't watch the programs. Sometimes constructive criticism leads to positive change. Apparently, if a submission is not "a ray of sunshine" the author is often chastised and lectured by another contributor. I don't think forums were designed to be only for cheerleaders, new age positive thinkers, and moral monitors. Let's disagree but not be disagreeable!

I agree with you. It is possible to have a different opinion without insulting other posters.

Uh Oh......

I agree....personal attacks are really not funny....and there's SO much material one can discuss without scorching a poster or host/vendor personally...

But I confess.....occasionally we DO see hilarious gripes from the fifth floor locked ward at Creedmoor*....and tthey can be funny ( and a little scary!!!)

Well-------what OP said would certainly be the ideal way to deal with stuff. But in this day and age, that is the exception to the rules anymore. I think now that people have the power of being able to remain anonymous, to write/say anything about anything and not take the consequences of those actions--this is the normal way of life. The old saying--if you can't say anything nice, shut the he** up-- doesn't go far. So many think they have the right to be mean and nasty---I blame one main person for all that---

I agree with you 100%...

WHcih is why I like THIS moderated forum...no endless politics, no personal attacks last long, and MOST posters post relevant, funny, happy or thoughfully....even those who do so on subjects I don't agree with.

In other words....NOT as hurtful and bombastic as MANY other forums.

I get poofed occasionally and don't lose my mind over it....

There's really sunshiny happy happy joy joy posts here each day from a few posters, there are terse two word posts that may say more in two words than in two pages, and there can even be acerbic, wry, ribald humor ..also not for everyone...but then again..what IS?

And it's also why I have Q on in the background...NO potitics, no horrible stories about the horrible things people do to each other, and especially, no stories about animals being abused or hurt....

Just a benign,banal,sometimes cornball, sometimes boorish shopping channel....!

Best viewed with the volume OFF!!!!

I enjoy reading the boards in the mornings while I'm having my coffee. I rarely post because some of the posters are just so rude. It's uncalled for and it reflects their own bitterness.

Well, I certainly agree that we should have respectful discourse.

However, I respectfully think calling posters who disagree with a topic the above highlighted names is a not-too-subtle slam of those posters.

Maybe they just have a different, legitimate point of view?

Why not?

I find some of it a welcome antidote to the relentless moaning, groaning and outrage. And it doesn't mean that the moaners need to stop.

Both, to me, are fine and acceptable. Something for everyone.

Imagine how boring this place would be if it was ALL the same point of view....

There are PLENTY of other forums out there for strictly one sided views....they get boring and repetitive very quickly.

I just skip over them if they're TOO sugary!!!

But I'd never say they shouldn't express those views.

Long Time posters know who to skip over....

I'm a long time poster and I tend to read the posts of even those I don't always agree wiht...because many times, they DO bring up points I agree with, just not in a way I might express myself on the same topic.

There are a LOT of diverse backgrounds on these boards. Of course, it IS getting distilled down to the same hundred or so posters....

I think this candle is almost burned out....

I got so frustrated with a person here who constantly argued with me in an unpleasant way....that I called her an old bag. Yes the thread was deleted immediately. I'm surprised I wasn't banned. I left the boards for a couple of months and no one noticed. Haha that's how important we are to each other.
but seriously, what I learned was to take nothing personally on a community forum.

It is difficult to take the high road when someone is insulting you but I have learned through the years not to take the bait and I move on to another thread.

I have no real problem with "criticizing" public figures like the hosts and vendors. I see it more as people expressing their opinions about their likes and dislikes.

What I do take offense at is when posters "bash" other posters. That is totally unnecessary and uncalled for. I usually report them as "inappropriate."
