VPH show - comments re Mary

Does anyone know what Pat and Valerie were talking about this morning when they teared up with the angel bracelets talking about Mary? Pat had specifically said how brave she was and she gave her one of the bracelets when she returned to work. I know she was off a bit recently with laryngitis, but I truly hope it is nothing more serious; she is one of my favorite hosts. I watch QVC to try and forget about serious stuff, so I was surprised and concerned by these comments.

I didn't see this part of the show but I do know that Mary had cancer

a few years ago, maybe she was speaking about helping her through

it with a special bracelet back then from a good friend.

@Cathyshopper I think Pat was talking about a few years ago Mary was out because I believe she had Thyroid Cancer...She has talked about it,so it's not a secret..and she gave her a bracelet

Mary posted on her Facebook page the end of march that her voice was totally gone and she was told not to use it for 4 days. I hope for the best for her. She is such an upbeat person and a pleasure to watch.

Mary isn't on any sort of medical leave.

She was on yesterday! Her voice is fine.

As others noted, Pat and Valerie were referring to Mary's health scare years ago.

Wow, what a way to start a rumor by bringing up something that happened years ago! Glad she's just fine now.

Rumors and speculation are never a good thing. Perhaps Pat and Valerie should have elaborated on who or what they were referring to.

I watched the presentation and both Pat and Val were getting fairly emotional and weepy at that point: tissues were brought out.

I did think it was an odd thing for Pat to suddenly bring up.

I saw the show, it felt contrived and Pat was purposely trying to bring on the waterworks. Pat cries or becomes emotional fairly often to try to sell products (e.g., carbon monoxide detector, estate planner). Fear-based sales tactics are pretty low.

At the end of the day they're salespeople who will say anything to secure a sale. Pulling at heart strings is just one of their tactics. I remember Jill Bauer offering condolences on-air to VPH shortly after her mom passed away, and Valerie started to cry (understandably so). It was obvious to me what Jill was doing. Garner sympathy to make a sale(s).

I can't find the video to rewatch but I do remember Pat also mentioning her mother that passed away.

I watched the video and I didn't not take it the same way as everyone else did. I think Valerie & Pat are very genuine nice ladies. I would love to meet both of them. I really can't believe how people can twist something so nice into something so ugly.

I agree. Accusing Jill of not being sincere in her sympathy is disgusting. Unfortunately, it's par for the course around here.

There is no reason to bring up others health problems and family deaths in a sales presentation. I think it's a low sales tactic to use a family loss or a serious health problem to sell a cheesy bracelet. Anything for a buck. I know it's their job but it's skeezy.
