Why The Referee Whistle on the Kim Gravel Shows?

Can anyone tell me why they constantly use the referee whistle on the Kim Gravel shows? I have to mute the show if I watch it because the whistle scares my pup to death. I don't get why they do this.

I think they do anything to add noise to the shows. I don't usually watch her shows but I have to say it's nice to have Mary Beth hosting today, at least she doesn't try to sing.

Beginning at least 20 years ago somehow "fun" began to = LOUD NOISE at restaurants and now out and about you cannot find "quiet".

I don't know why this happens but suspect itbis because people now find it awkward to communicate with each other? Just is beyond me?

So annoying! Whistles are awful. I feel the same way about activated smoke alarms and excessive SCREAMING on TV shows lately.

My pet peeve is birthng scenes. Hit the mute button quick!

Interesting @LTT1, maybe that's why I subconsciously quit dining out for the most part. The crowds, waiting for a table, loud music. I would rather be home these days. Maybe it's a young person's game now. 🥳

Probably to grab your attention in case you're using QVC as background noise instead of actively watching as I sometimes do.

We always check out the TSV at midnight before going to bed. I think DH had already fallen asleep on the couch last night, so when I turned the TV on this morning, QVC and KG was on. I didn't notice them doing the whistle during the presentation of the boatneck sweater. However, I heard it during the presentation for the stretch velvet palazzo pants which are on clearance, so maybe it was to draw your attention to the great price. They were only $39 which is a great price for anything KG. That was right as I was signing in here and, coincidentally, this thread was at the top of my feed because I was kinda startled by it.

I didn't find it particularly loud and annoying though like I do loud cackling laughter.

I can take the Belle by Kim Gravel show whistle any day. At least it's relatively short.

What I abhor is the Saturday morning AM Style alarm clock. That noise goes on far too long and is worse than nails on a chalkboard.

The Referee Whistle is used when they supposedly go off the rails...get off track....get too silly etc.

Just meant as a 'gag' it seems to me. Harmless fun?

I believe it is the Producer giving them a 'warning whistle' for a time out......

Doesn't bother me in the least. If it did, I'd change the channel or mute ...

@12andcounting Maybe you need to buy a whistle and work to desensitize the dog. My two dogs don't even lift their heads.

@LTT1 I guess I'm getting old. The noise in restaurants and stores annoy me. But recently, our Walmart has quiet hours in the morning...I think they consider it "senior" hours. There is absolutely no music playing. It's very peaceful. I really prefer these hours for shopping even if it is only a couple hours. Works for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don't know about the whistle on QVC...

However, the music in Chico's used to be so loud ( and definitely not pleasant ) that folks kept complaining and leaving the store rather than browsing. The associates had complained to corporate but it took quite a while to make a change......sales must have slumped.

Great example of " Voting with your feet / pocketbook. "

@LTT1 I'm with you thinking quiet is a thing of the past and feeling as if lots of the noise is to cover up people's unwillingness or incapability to carry on a conversation. I first noticed this in the 1980's, but it's gotten much worse over the decades.

@goldensrbest Because the singing and dancing are enjoyable for many of us. Makes me happy. Much better than just a long commercial. If I want something, I'm going to buy it. Don't need a long boring "commercial" to convince me to buy. The singing/dancing keeps my interest in the show up.

I notice they acknowledge producer Chunky during Kim's shows quite a bit. I think it was him with the referee whistle.
