I had this happen several months ago trying to immediately pull up the order to change my CC payment and was not allowed. CS said it can happen that an order can sometimes go through within minutes! Sounds like it is worse now trying to get things shipped.

The customer placed the order and it's no one else's fault if they reconsider afterwards. It happens to everyone at some point in life.

There are very few retailers that let you cancel after the order is placed. People need to stop and think before hitting that last button.

@CalminHeart I think 10 to 15 minutes is good customer service to let one cancel an order. What retailer allows it? Amazon on all my orders, Zulily, 6PM, Zappos, The Gap, many more, and almost all food deliveries.

I buy for me, my sister, and my mom regularly. My sister & mom are much older and never shop online. Sometimes I see something they need or want, but they get back to me slowly and I may have to cancel to edit the order. I don't purchase on a whim. But when I need to get their clothes, personal items, food delivered (they live 300 miles away), etc., sometimes I'm working on crunch time because I also telework.

Everyone's situation isn't the same.

True, but the difference here is that with the exception of Amazon, the other retailers you noted don't ship from vendors, but from their own warehouses. With Amazon, I have tried to cancel orders from 3rd parties that haven't been able to be canceled either. Actual Amazon orders can be canceled pretty much anytime.

@Tori3569 I have always been able to cancel with Zulily, and they never had their own warehouse. I cancel with 6PM, and they even clearly outline their cancellation process on their site. The only time I've even not been able to cancel is when too much time has lapsed, and that's absolutely understandable.

A shopper hits that BUY button too easily. It's up to us to do our research and be sure we want the item, it's not the retailers responsibility to let us change our minds when another potential buyer WOULD make the purchase. When we cancel it could very well prevent another sale to perhaps a new customer.

I do understand the frustration when we change our minds and can't stop the sale. I also understand the frustration on delayed shipment. We can't have it both ways. Most people want their items as quick as possible, especially at this time of year. Then, they order everything that is purchased from them to the vendor who in turn, ships only what is ordered to Zulily, finally it is shipped from Zulily. Very long process. This is why there are thousands of complaints about length of shipping from them, they have very little in stock of anything (except now that they are going out of business they are selling what's in stock). So yes, you can cancel with Zulily but shipping tended to take longer.

With 6PM you can cancel on "select" items.

I think they're concentrating on getting their orders out quickly that they have advertised to arrive by Christmas. I have some orders that specifically state "Holiday Delivery", which I've never seen before. Those are the ones that shipped the same day I ordered and are on their way.

Others, like my auto deliveries, are taking longer than normal to ship. I think those "regular" orders aren't the priority right now.

People don't pay attention to the delivery dates. However, you pointed out that you could cancel orders on Zulily. I was explaining why you can. At least in the past, most everything was basically a pre-order. They also had a "hold" on your items since they gave you free shipping the rest of the day or the entire weekend if you ordered on a Friday or Saturday. So, yes, it was easy for them to cancel within a day or hours since your order was essentially not placed yet.

I purchased frequently from Zulily in the beginning, so many cool, unique items. Shipping was never a problem since I knew it would take longer than usual. In some cases I received items 6 weeks later.
