Ridiculous sales pitch (again)

Passing by the Q this morning and heard a host say "this leather speaks to my soul". Really? That's laughable and I did. And,hey, I know it's probably hard to talk about a dumb looking purse for an hour but....come on. Of course it was Kerstin.

Okay, this I agree with. No handbag, leather or otherwise, "speaks to my soul". Yes, it is laughable. Or maybe cringeworthy. Did she really say that?

Some things "speak to my soul" but an inanimate object isn't one of them.

Well, maybe the host just did not know how to express herself well enough to convey her reaction.

It could be that the style, the sense of artistry, the construction, the soft materials, etc., all gave her such a positive reaction that she was instantly and totally attracted to the bag.

Yes, I had that happen to me once or twice with a bag--I remember I saw a beautiful pink Balenciaga city bag with gold buttons in NM that I just could not stop thinking about. I never purchased it because it was thousands of dollars, but it was truly one of the most beautiful and well constructed bags I had ever seen.

I actually bought my DH the leather duffel bag they had a few months ago as a gift, but I am a person who usually prefers elaborate detail over streamlined smoothness, so I have not watched any more of the leather shows.

But I will confess I have impulsively bought many items in my life just because of "love at first sight!" (The same way I met DH--smile.)

It's pretty sad that an item as insignificant as a purse (or anything else) can speak to someone's soul. Talk about messed up priorities in life. That doesn't say much for that person's soul.

Give them some slack....to some degree. Yes, a lot of what's said is just silly nonsense, childish, and useless chit chat. I turn the channel because I want to watch a shopping channel, not what Q considers entertainment (which is isn't).

I know I'd be bored out of my mind if I had to talk about 99% of what Q sells on air.

I totally agree @CalminHeart .. People on these forums knit pick every tiny little thing. So what if that's what she said, it's one sentence. How would these people like their conversations critiqued? I wouldn't.

The hosts need to censor. Some of the stuff they come up with is ridiculous. Such drama “speak to my soul” just plain stupid.

I get that the hosts are going to use catchphrases and repeat things over and over to sell whatever product they're showcasing.

But I think bringing their "soul" into it, is beyond ridiculous. They're not selling religious items, when they use it.

I think they simply feel that this particular phrase is "cool" and more emotive than just saying "I love this item" or even "I like this item". IMO, it sounds silly.

I usually cut the hosts a lot of slack because, let's face it, it can't be easy talking for hours about the same things over and over and trying to come up with new things to say.

This, however? No. They'd do better to think of a different catchphrase.

When I hear a host say anything "speaks to my soul," I hear "I love xxxxx."

Even when I like something, for me that does not translate to "speaks to my soul." Whether it's leather or wool or engraved silver doesn't come into the equation.

When I read today's thread about a memorial necklace, I was touched by the emotion evident in many of the answers. Some objects do speak to some souls, but like so many ideas, it's a highly personal one.

I think part of the problem is the hosts are legends in their own minds. They don’t think before they speak.

Hosts wouldn't have to use so many silly phrases if they did their homework. If they would give measurements, wash/cleaning of product, the content of the material, etc they wouldn't need to talk nonsense as filler.

If YOU went in to work today and had to spend twenty minutes each hour SELLING this ridiculous schmatta...you'd use every phrase in the book to get people to "Use the APP!!!!" to spend some jing on it...because it's your job....and you have a quota...so you toe the line with the requisite enthusiasm and hyperbole...

YOU may think it's ridiculous choice for women, even though it's "ONLY" seventy bucks, and YOU may think you don't like having to be in on the joke ( punking women who work hard for their money and WANT to spend on HSN and QVC) but you have to do it....!

It's the job. ..Pots, pans, imported crack-ware, schmattas,magic creams....it all pays the bills....

PS: Long time ( DECADES/THOUSANDS SPENT) customer of Q and WANT to spend money there....just can't beleive what they're offering for women these days...it HAS to be a joke but I'm just not in on it I guess....Good there's so many other places today to shop)
