plug in scents...

what are your thoughts on plug in scents?? I have never tried them. I do enjoy candles. I was wondering if they really produce much of a scent....do you like them...and if so....what brand?

@ruthbe I love them, I love candles also. Our home is about 2,500 sq. ft. and it usually takes 3 at various locations to smell them throughout the house. These work great to keep plugged in 24 hours a day. My candles, obviously, can only be lit while I am home. They last about 1-2 months.

I really like Bath & Body Works plug-ins and candles. They have great sales. I can buy online and I have one just a few miles from my home. If you have a store close it's worth a trip to smell the different scents yourself to see what you like and don't like.

I have used them...only ever tried AirWick. I had put some in my mom's assisted living apartment, and liked them, so I tried some too.

They seem like they'd be really fake smelling and cloying, but I've gotten a few I actually liked. Usually they have a "scratch & sniff" on the package that is accurate to what the fragrance is...so you can tell if it's something you'd like. They're not fancy, nor are the plug in holders...but I put them in a few descreet places in my place...only certain times of year. Last fall there was an apple cider, (I think it was), that was very fall, I enjoyed having. I don't have them around all the time, only if I happen to see a fragrance I like. Othertimes I just use candle tarts in a tart warmer. I don't burn big candles anymore.

There are Yankee candle plug ins, Slatkin used to sell some on QVC, so there might be fancier or more refined smelling ones. But the Air-wicks were ok by me.

They lasted about a month.

People will tell you they are bad,if you have pets, i bought Scent fill plugins ,from amazon,more expensive than the other plug ins, i wanted to get some type of mint fragrace,they have peppermint,had them fo 4 days now,it smells so fresh!!

I think they are overpowering to me. I broke out in hives using the glade febreeze plug in.

You also never want to use them if you have birds or other small animals such as hamsters, guinea pigs or other similar small animals. The essentials oils in them are extremely toxic.

I was using plugins but our cat Mitzi developed asthma so they were discontinued. She still has the asthma a year and a half later so it may have been a coincidence, but we aren't using them. I do use wax melts, they are not as potent and since they are on a counter she is not nose to nose with them. I can't burn candles because of the cats and stayed away from them for years because of the lovebirds.

There should be a strict/strong warning re: pets, birds, and let's not forget newborns/babies/young children.

Even though they might be 'natural' essences/fragrances, they could be toxic.

At the very least, some living things could be allergic.

Sometimes headaches, lung/breathing problems/ asthma could be triggered by even natural herbs, fragrances, odors, etc., etc.

Just be careful.

Many folks (millions) are taking antihistamines each day without thinking about their home environments.

Well, let's be wise, and wish one another (and pets, newborns, babies) good and/or better health and safety.

thanks to all of you...I didn't even think about small animals. We have 2 small dogs. It would break my heart if anything happened. Thanks sooooo much.

I'd rather use Little Trees. They come in many scents, made of biodegradable material and they're cheap. They will last long (up to 7 weeks) if you don't unwrap them all the way...as per instructions say to do.

They make 40 different scents.

They are extremely bothersome to me. Absolutely do not use them in my home. They are also hard on pets. Dogs have such a strong sense of smell that those smells would be so much more than what we smell. Some could be toxic or irritating also I think. Artificial smells are not my thing. Give me a true smell from the flowers.

We had a girl whose desk was near my office and she brought in a plug-in and put it in an open area very near my office. I dreaded going to work and sitting with that smell all day. Went home with a headache. Finally asked her to please remove it.

@ruthbe this was so conflicting for me as when I switched from real candles I missed the fragrance. I have used Bath & Body Works wallflowers for many years & the others glade etc I really enjoyed them. After thinking about it and realizing they're all chemicals I decided to stop.

Little animals can be harmed by the fumes so I figured it could hurt humans too.

Kind of miss them like I also miss sugar and carbs lol but I feel good about the decision.

Everywhere I walk, I see many Little Trees hanging on cars' rear view mirrors.

Make no mistake: I like/love Little Trees, and I've used them in my basement and front porch, garage, and other hallways, etc. 80 percent wrapped in the plastic packaging. Not too strong when mostly wrapped. Wonderful scents, etc. Strawberry, Apple Cinnamon, Vanilla, Peach, and others that I can't recall right now.

But, I wouldn't be able to drive around all day long or be a passenger in a car with a fully unwrapped Little Tree, as much as I like them.

And, never mind hanging them in bedrooms/children's/babies' rooms. No way.

Several years ago, one of our neighbor's down the stree realtors plugged in several plug-ins for showing the house to prospective renters or buyers.

Each time we walked by that house, we coughed and/or sneezed. One of the walkers avoided passing by because of her asthma.

Wow, the scent/odor was seeping out of the house, onto the sidewalk.

I think some of the Little Trees last longer than others. I have some that last for months. Just depends on which one and where I use them.

Yes PLEASE be careful ith those things if you have pets. My cat got very sick from a plug- in I was using. Daily trips to the vet for IV fluids, high temps and stopped eating/drinking, blood labs done--just had no clue why she got so sick--DD randomly read the warning about those things and the pieces fit purrfectly () I got rid of it and in 2 days she was fine---I spent hundreds of $$ at the vet and days of worry.

There was a safety warning about plug in scents. They can heat up & cause fires. I use them but remove them when I go on vacation or long excursions.
