Will UPS strike affect QVC shipping?

This may get taken down since it is in reference to labor unions and this site hates controversy of any kind. But before it is deleted, do you the up coming UPS strike will affect QVC shipping?

I don't think discussing labor unions is against community standards. I know Politics and Religion are against the standards, but labor unions, no. Unless bad arguments start.

I have two separate items making their way to me, but I'm not comfortable ordering anything else at this point, given how long things take to reach me from QVC. Don't want to have something I've already been charged for tied up in a strike.

QVC probably has a contingency plan but they haven't told us. I believe the all-important date is August 1. Pending resolution, you are smart to postpone orders.

@mormel20 Yes, it will definitely impact shipping and not just for QVC. The rival carriers, such as FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service cannot pick up the slack. It will also impact brick and mortar stores who also get some of their merchandise via UPS.

I hope the demands of the workers are met. They appear to be quite determined to have their concerns addressed substantively. 97% of the 340,000 membership voted to authorize their representatives to call a strike if an agreement is not reached by the deadline.

UPS had $100 Billion in revenue LAST year.

Of course, if they are nearing a viable agreeeement the Union leadership can extend the deadline.

The last time they struck was 1997 and it impacted the economy greatly.

I'm far more concerned about what effect a shipping strike could have on food, medical supplies, fuel, etc.

They're hiring temporary workers but since they'll be inexperienced, it stands to reason things will be chaotic. This strike will hurt many people.

I've been getting UPS "We're hiring" pop up ads online instead of my usual ones.

I enjoyed the picketing yesterday with "Just practicing" signs.

Besides hiring temporary workers (who will run themselves ragged for no thanks) corporate will also press some managers, who once might have been drivers, provided they have the correct licensing, into driving, or riding along to run packages to recipient sites if I am recollecting events correctly during the week long strike--I think was its length--in 1997.

Many strikers back then did double shifts of picketing because they were so determined to prove they were serious about their stated contract demands.

I made a couple of lifelong friends from that strike since I was also a member of a union and marched on their lines in solidarity twice during that strike and once more five years later when they were again trying to get a contract which they achieved that time without having to strike.

I don’t really care about my optional purchases being delivered but people who depend on UPS for medications are a source of concern to me. I hope the pharmaceutical companies have a business contingency plan.
