Do the hosts and models wear whatever color they want or are they told what color to wear?

I've heard many of them say, many times that they have picked what they want to wear, however, if a color is sold out they are told and they change. There is a stylist now and for Rachael B for a TSV show about a month ago, the stylist put together her outfit which included a hat, sandals and I can't remember which top and bottoms. She said the stylist styled her for the show.

Most of the time I think hosts get to pick what they wear.

The models wear what the stylists tell them to.

@ShortyLugNut It depends on the availability of the item. I know that if a color is limited they are not suppose to wear it. The producers know what color a host wears will most often become the most popular. With that said, the host has limited options due to sizing availability. There aren't an abundance of sizes and colors available for all the hosts on a given day. Of course, they do want to represent the item at it's best so the models/hosts will be styled at their best.

When I toured the studio several years ago there was a ticker tape at the producers visibility that is current time. They know how fast and how many items are sold instantaneously. This is how the Happy Dance became so popular. For some reason, when David did the dance the item skyrocketed in sales, hence, the continuance of this, although, I doubt it has the same impact.

I don't think the tours are even close to the same as it was back in the day, but it was very interesting watching the producer interacting with the host and the entire process of behind the scenes.

I feel certain clothes are chosen for the models in advance. Otherwise they wouldn't have the correct sizes available. If they have an excess of one color or one isn't selling, you'll see a model and the host wearing it.

The QVC Studio tours have permanently closed. They have opened a few 'live audience' event shows, but you must request tickets well in advance of the special event. In addition to the Studio Tours closing, the Studio Store closed as well. For those that have never been to the QVC Studio, they had an area on the ground floor where you could see and purchase some select items; anything from clothing to jewelery to anything else that QVC might be selling.

@ShortyLugNut I have heard on non-clothing shows like ITKWD the host and / or vendor saying something like I see you got the memo about the color to wear for today.

@ciao_bella Oh wow, I did not know that. I thought the tours would have resumed after things were opened due to Covid. It was a really fun thing to do. I actually did the tour a couple times. It was very informative and gave a better understanding how things are run.

And the studio store was cool. You saw things in person and it was kind of exciting. Of course, I enjoyed shopping the outlets better but it was a great experience meeting hosts and seeing everything behind the scenes.

Can you see David doing clothing shows - whisking models offstage the second the item they're wearing sells out.

I think they pick the the color they want to wear, otherise they wouldn't all only wear the black option. I find it annoying when host after host when the present the same item only wear the black option. It doesn't really show how the other colors look on a body which would be helpful. Black is not the only color QVC sells but you usually can't tell form the hosts, except Rachel

@rockygems123 I don't think they mean a literal memo on what color to wear. This is a common saying when people dress alike. My coworker said it to me this morning when she came in the office. We both have on similar white eyelet shirts and jeans. When she saw mw she said "I see we got the memo on white shirts and jeans today".

@cjm61 I took the tour, too, a very long time ago. I thought it was very informative and a lot of fun. I remember walking the catwalk that's above one of the sets. I remember seeing the Vitamix guy, Jan Mueller, changing his shirt!! We were told to be quiet, of course. I looked around in the little store they had in the Lobby and only bought myself a cute little silvertone QVC keychain that looked like a little gift bag. It's tucked away with some other little special things I have in a stash. Do you remember what they said about employee discounts? For the life of me, I've tried and tried to remember, and I thiiiiiink they said it was 40%. That was then, who knows if I heard correctly or if it's the same now.

@BarbiHollywood Yes, wasn't the tour fun. If memory serves me correct it was 40% but they receive a bigger discount at Christmas, I think an additional 10%.

@cjm61 Hi! So you seem to recall the same thing I do so we must be correct. Imagine getting that much of a discount? Now it makes sense when we hear all the hosts say they're getting two of something or watching Amy Stran do her unboxing videos! She orders quite a bit of stuff, but with that much of a discount, why wouldn't she??!!! (Do you follow her on FB? She posts little videos of her opening her packages and showing it to us. It's fun. I like Amy so I enjoy it.)

@BarbiHollywood I believe I am a walking advertisement for QVC and HSN, , already. But, wow, if I was a host I would truly own 3x more I'm sure.

I like Amy also but I do not do FB or any other social media. I'm only on this one. And I also believe many hosts are truthful regarding what they own. I am not convinced they actually order something when they "say" to the producers, order me one or I will order when I am off air.
