Shipping cost increasing?

I've noticed on a few clothing items that the shipping costs are higher lately. Just tuning in this morning to Denim & Co and Gary said the sweater they were presenting was light as a feather but when I looked on line for it the shipping cost is $5.50. Really deters me from purchasing in case of a return. Anybody else noticing this?

@Whispergirl. I run my own business and shipping related costs including packaging materials have gone up and rates will reflect that.

Since s/h for QVC is pure profit and they are having difficult financial times, raising the s/h charges makes sense to them.

Shipping is going up everywhere. Just look at the price of a stamp nowadays for a single letter.

@rockygems123 A friend of mine ran a small business on eBay some years ago but gave it up when the costs in money and time for shipping became prohibitive.

I'm not surprised to see prices go up - for individual items as they do here at QVC or in the fees Amazon, etc. collect upfront to provide what they call free shipping. It wasn't close to free the year I paid for Prime, but that was the year Amazon owned the rights to Downton Abbey and I wanted to catch up so I could enjoy the last several. Never paid for Prime again.

@yamma024 It's not a mistake; they're slowly but surely slipping a s&h increase in on us. There are now many items marked at $5.50. Why don't they just say they're increasing shipping prices?

QVC has some of the most expensive shipping costs out there. It’s merely a way for them to increase prices. They charge shipping on almost every single item, except high dollar items. Their greed has caused me to drastically stop ordering very much, just out of principle. Amazon lets you avoid shipping charges when you spend $35. I just wait until I have that much in my cart to order from Amazon. I don’t even pay for Prime. QVC prices are no longer even competitive on most items, they are way overpriced, if you check other sources.
I also get irritated when you look through a list of items, stop to read about one, it always takes you back to the top of the list, not where you were. That’s insulting to me. They’re just forcing you to look through everything all over again. Not very respectful to customers!

I try to still order from eBay or Q free shipping days. Or Amazon over 25. Have you mailed anything from USPS lately? 3.50 is a big bargain. Mailed three very SMALL boxes at Christmas over $30. crazy.

Much of the industry standard is free shipping & free returns. QVC is totally off base with their policies in this area.

Honestly when I buy something online I don't even look at the shipping cost. I look at the total cost. "Free" shipping items probably have the cost built into the price. Shipping prices are increasing with everything else. I sell jewelry on Etsy and it costs me $3.75 to mail a pair of earrings weighing 3 oz.

@millieshops . That is my business as well selling on Ebay. And Amazon Prime now? Yikes 139/year.

@lynnie61 Looking at the latest Amazon Prime fee of 139 has me considering not buying into it this year.

Do you find that you are very limited when finding the $25 item threshold? I have certain things I need for business and am wondering if I can check in advance to see if they quality for free over $25.

Shipping costs are a very large reason why I stopped selling on eBay. Shippling costs for a seller are outrageous (we can't get a break on the costs from the post office because we don't sell in bulk).... Ebay encourages the sellers to give free shipping.... but at the post office prices we can't. I used to give a break to the buyer and instead of charging the full price for the shipping, I'd only charge half price. But here's the rub.... the buyers wanted the free shipping and think we make a fortune selling. Sometimes I'd sell something and only break even. I'd do it simply to turn the stuff around so I could find new and maybe more interesting things.

I've been selling since 2003. I stopped in 2019 when we moved.

I'm sure QVC gets a huge break from the post office for bulk mail.

@rockygems123 Sometimes I can't get to $25, but I usually just add a household item. I check eBay first. Many times, same price as Amazon but no $25 limit. You CAN get it faster but maybe at a cost. I choose the free delivery date. The good thing is THEN, you get free shipping for 24 hours on Amazon with no spending limit. Many times it ships in two days, might get it on day 3 or 4 (even if I pick the 5 or 6 day free date)

I wait 7-9 days usually on Q, so I never care they're saying 2 to 4 days to get my Amazon item. Many times I still get it in 2-3 days. I'm sure prime is great for many, just not for my buying level. I've really found some great EBay deals on beauty.

@rockygems123 one other thing, I always check my order total, because sometimes it would default to say a 5.99 shipping charge and not the free date. Just something to watch. Also, that it does ship from amazon. Not all third party shippers would count the $25 min level. (If you choose one Amazon item, and a third party item). Just double check before hitting the place order button.

@Q4u I'm sorry to hear that you had to stop your business due to high costs. I've made a very reasonable offer recently (just a few dollars off), seller accepted, as I bought from them before. I'm sure there are many that do offer a low low bid. Not right. Many are just trying to turn over the inventory quickly.

I've only ever made two offers, one accepted, one denied. I was not offended in the least on the denied offer. Everyone derserves to try to make a go of it at the price they want.

I've seen people years ago trying to get lower prices at flea markets. From a $1 to .50. My gosh, that's crazy. Be happy you got a nice item for $1.

Postage will be increasing in July as well as the cost to mail packages from the Postal Service . Postage just increased in Januaruy 2023.
