What is it with first time posters?

Not being on any other forum and not knowing, is this a common practice to complain and run?

So cringe worthy, I often don't feel comfortable replying as it seems to be a scam and / or baiting. Some first time posters or ones with single digit postings seem to want to stir the pot and not genuinely participate as they rarely respond to any posters.

Is this common on forums?

@rockygems123 Agree. If I came here for the first time, I'd do lots of reading and get the "lay of the land" before authoring a controversial post on a subject where it was obvious I knew little or nothing.

We do seem to get a lot of hit and run posts. Also demands for merchandise identification where they never return.

@rockygems123 , I feel it can have the potential for baiting and/or stirring the pot. Just last week, a 'new poster' started a thread about wearing fur coats which is a very controversial subject.

I read through it; however, did not post. Since that time, that 'new poster' hasn't been around nor did that 'new poster' ever come back and post on the thread started.

If they are complaining about a QVC product or QVC in general, I look at it as someone so frustrated, they are venting. If it's a controversial subject like fur coats or they grand stand about a hot topic happening in society, I look at their post as baiting and ignore.

Beside baiting they also probably are some who regularly post here under other names. Posting and wording style can give it away!

I often wonder the same thing. I used to moderate a gardening/pond forum and at that time the moderators had access to the location and basic info on each post that was made, so we could cancel the account if need be or if we thought it was a pot stirrer.

My thought is a lot of them are not first time posters. They are trouble makers with a new identity so they hit and run to see how much they can stir up.

The ones that truly are 1st times and only post 1 time just to complain are cowardly.

Just my opinion folks just my opinion.

Yup, when I first came here, there was a problem with some posters having multiple nics. Sometimes done to cause trouble.

Don't see where there'd be a monetary gain, is it just for jollies? I don't get the whole internet notoriety thing.

I think most real "first timers" will post a comment on an existing thread. That's been my observation.

Creating a new thread on a controversial topic is a clear sign of something else.

Creating a thread of this ilk would certainly cause others to avoid a solo post or stop posting all together with this type of intimidation. If you live to monitor others thoughts and spend time counting posts (!) on a mere shopping channel forum, then Heaven help you and all who sail your sad ship. Cliques are for teenagers.

I TOTALLY agree with everything you posted. I don't know WHY anyone would care what a first time poster posts. Must have NOTHING better to do.

Exactly @layla2450 , and I've seen more long-time posters start "baiting" threads than any newtimer.

Well, there's a "first-time" for everyone.

But I agree, first-timers who start a thread are often courting controversy.

Maybe we need a new rule: you can't start a thread until you have at least 100 posts.
