Vendor Return to Studio Costly

The return of vendors to the studio may have been a costly decision. Vendors lose productivity time and have the inconvenience and expense of travel. It may be causing some vendors to rethink their participation.

Carolyn Pollack and David Dangle have both recently stepped away from their on air roles. They are leaving their commitment to appear on QVC, not their companies. I would rather have seen these two remotely than lose them.

I think the vendors would prefer to present in person because I think the merchandise sells better that way.

I am less inclined to watch a show or presentation with a remote vendor; I find it aggravating and not at all pleasant to watch or listen to.

@On It Travel for anyone is expensive, but most of the vendors we see on QVC have their own reasons for appearing when and most likely where they do. Over the years I've been shopping with QVC, I've met several of the vendors in person - all of them selling in stores near my home.

We have no way of knowing why Carolyn Pollack or David Dangle really decided not to do in studio OR remote.

We are not privvy to contract issues between QVC and vendors.

I wouldn't speculate or assume what is going on in someone else's mind and private life.

I believe someone posted what David Dangle put on his FB page....but the real reasons are their own.

I highly doubt QVC is paying any of their travel expenses at all!!!!

Remote or in studio makes absolutely no difference to me in my decision to purchase or not.

I can't think of one other place I shop online that has live anything...so I am just looking at pictures online anyways!

David Dangle does not live too far from the QVC studio. He has an apartment in NYC. But he had a single family home built in Pennsylvania, for the sole purpose of appearing on air at QVC.

But I agree that I think many guests are reconsidering their in-person appearances since it's largely a huge expense over time and a waste of resources.

Susan, Josie, Isaac, Renee -- just a few of the hosts who are on QVC several times a week, and still only do less than 10% of their shows in-person. Smart.

The issue is not who pays for the travel, the issue is does a vendor's presence or remoteness affect sales. If the sound quality is good (really excellent) like news broadcasts, I don't care where that vendor is.

Unrelated, but related....

One of our local radio stations in the DC metro area is WTOP 103.5 radio. Their early morning meteorologist is Lauryn Ricketts who is now giving our weather forecasts from her new home in Prague, Czech Republic. You'd never even know.

If vendor's did not make a profit from appearing on QVC they would not do it.

The Pollack's and David Dangle are older people and they have chosen to cut out working hours. (from what I read).

There is a difference in a vendor and a spokesperson-brand amabassador. For example the scrub daddy guy is a vendor but Mrs Prindiable's gal is a spokes person.

Over the years I have met 2 vendors selling on Q. Both were 50-50 state product finds. One was a lady that sold an eye glasses washing thing and the other was a man selling some sort of flavoring mix to add to coffee.

Both said they pay their own expenses and must provide samples and props. They both said that vendors complain about their time slots and hosts. They both had interesting stories but said Q staff was nice. Of course this was a very long time ago.

Oh, ok. I thought that travel expenses might be a factor in that QVC isn't doing so well financially. That would be a big expense in airfare ( especially cross country) and cars picking them up to and fro NYC and The Hamptons and also their room and board etc.

I think QVC pays their travel expenses, hotels, meals and they have determined that in some cases its it is not cost effective. The Joan Rivers line did not need Bitsy and David both doing presentations. David will remain the designer. Bitsy will present. I think Caroline Pollock is a different situation. She's retiring and pretty much ending the company. QVC will continue selling what's in inventory but it's the end of American West.

The vendors pay their own expenses. Transportation, hotels, etc.
