In the Kitchen with David

I watched ITKWD last night and I know he has lost 70 pounds and that's great but I notice on the show not much food. The only food I saw was Heartland Chicken he ate a small piece but the rest was low carb bars and Corkeys pork rinds he ate small amount and at one point he told Steve to dip what looked like a chip in something the Vitamix vendor made while David stood there and watched him. I notice he is doing that alot now watching other people eat and the look on his face is strange. The rest of the show was Vitamix and Tempations kitchen items. It is like his show now has low carb no sugar from now on. I know he is watching his weight but it is not the same watching him watch other people eat.

Earlier Gourmet Holiday was on 1-4pm with Rick and Jane Brown and Alberti and Rachel 4-7pm I enjoyed the show they tested the food and where having a good time so now is food going to be on that show and David just have food he can eat on his show so he doesn't have to stand there watch someone try the food.

When David started his diet he was having some health problems and food intake was advised by his doctor. So you would like for David to continue the unhealthy eating so you can enjoy the show? Im sure the food is very tempting but David is sticking to his restrictions. That shows a lot of self control. How selfish can you be?

I wouldn't have the willpower to stand around and watch other people eat so I would be sampling everything like Rick, Jayne and Alberti. However having said that I do commend David for his willpower during his shows and his commitment to losing weight. Willpower and commitment are important when are trying to lower the numbers on your bathroom scales.

I tend to agree that his shows don't seem to have the same appeal for me that they used to hold. Part of that might be that the products are more limited, but also there seems to be is less cooking and recipes. I think that kitchen appliances and gadgets were a big part of my purchasing, we always tried to catch ITKWD shows.

Basically I feel David is disinterested in his own show. I also believe that same disinterest is catching on to others...like customers

I've responded to a similar post so if you've read it you can pass on by. This is my opinion, and my opinion only.

If David doesn't want to taste food, that's fine with me. But, if QVC believes he can continue presenting food items without tasting then it shouldn't be necessary for the other hosts to taste the food. I think QVC needs to stick to a standard, either the hosts must try the food or none of them need to. I really don't care if they taste anything anyway, my food purchases are never determined by their reactions after a bite. I don't believe it is necessary. In fact, many times it's over the top. I'm sure every person on this board knows a host will not try something they find awful and tell us how bad it is. I just do not fall for the eye rolling and the "happy dance".

Basically, if you feel it's okay for David to not taste, whether for health reasons or personal preference, all tasting could be eliminated. Otherwise, David should no longer do food shows. Again, in my opinion, when he doesn't try a dessert or a high-carb food, it comes across as it is not healthy (which it probably isn't) and can subconsciously, or consciously, discourage a person from buying.

I do not watch these kitchen or food shows, so maybe I should not comment.

There have been many comments made about David not eating during the shows. Why does that matter? If a recipe they prepare or a food they sell looks like something one would like, what difference does it make if the host eats it?

@pupwhipped I think you nailed it. I think David is bored out of his mind with his own show, the vendors and the products. He looks bored as he stands there listening to Tara or Mark Charles as he's only there to recite colors.... over and over.

I bet he'd be delighted to move on to some new venture. I don't blame him, I'm bored with his show too.

I'm so confused by some of these comments. Mary is gluten free for health reasons and she does not sample gluten products on her shows. Should she be made to compromise her health by sampling everything? If not, shouldn't David have the same choice?

@PMG055I believe the reason the comments are all about David is because the OP specifically was talking about ITKWD. Please read my post below. I truly do not believe any host needs to taste the food regardless of health reasons or personal preference. Not necessary.

Rachel and Alberti are a marvel. They eat like they haven't been up to the trough in years. What a sight to see them shoveling it down while David stands with his hand on his hip watching them. And Steve. Steve throws the entire wedding cookies down and Dave said he would take a little bite, leaving the rest.

It's getting funnier and funnier to watch.

I have to ask does the host eating the food actually convince you to purchase? For me it doesn't mean anything. If they eat the food, they are paid to say how wonderful it is even if the host doesn't personally like it.

I don't think David not tasting during the show is the problem. I think he's just not as excited about cooking and eating since he's been watching what he eats.

I don't understand why you need to watch someone eating food before you will try it. You know what appeals to you and what doesn't.

When you go to the grocery store do you expect people to be sampling food before you buy it. At the deli counter are they supposed to be snacking. If you go to Mc Donalds to they have to be chewing on a burger..........

A couple of my relatives are diabetic and they will refuse to put some things in their mouths. Even just a little will send their sugar levels soaring. And food is boring to them. You learn to eat to survive, not the other way around.

@pupwhipped This is so true. I have stopped watching him because he looks totally bored to me. If he doesn't eat the food, I have no problem with that. But, I can totally sense his disinterest.

I to give him alot of credit for loosing the 70 lbs per his admission on the show , but what a shame he ended up eating those pork rinds with Carla Hall who appeared on the show with Rachel and Alberti who was so enamoured .

Poor David can't win for losing. When he eats there are complaints about the yum yum face and happy dance. If he doesn't eat, for health reasons, he shouldn't be doing kitchen shows and he is bored. Its a lose lose for him no matter what he does.

Why? Those pork rinds are a low carb snack that aren't terribly high in fat or sodium for a snack food. Pork rinds are often a staple snack in low card diets. At 80 caories a serving, I'd have some too.
