It really blows my mind that so many people are taking it personally that Dan and Carolyn got laid off from QVC. People get laid off from jobs all the time. I've seen posts saying they called corporate about the layoffs or they quit watching bc of Dan and Carolyn. What about the other 398 people that were laid off?? Are these same people calling QVC about them as well?? No,bc like I said- people get laid off all the time. I guarantee that Dan and Carolyn are in a much better tax bracket than the other 398 people who lost their jobs. Dan and Carolyn were hosts and I'm sure lots of people feel connected to them, but that's simply not true. QVC is a business. The hosts are not your friends. Do you think Dan or Carolyn would be this upset if you were laid off?? No, bc again, they are not your friends. They were hosts. It's time to come back to reality and move on.

@Glitter51 QVC has made a concerted effort over the years to make their hosts friends to viewers, even giving off a family vibe. Hosts' singing Christmas albums, the dog Murphy, weekends with ITKW with Bob Bowersox Bed & Breakfast and studio tour. Hosts going through life threatening illness and sharing their recovery. All those things can and in some cases justifiably pull at your heart strings and make you open to believing the host on the product description and with QVC hoping you'll buy it.

Not sure that's the MO today as the frenetic screaming isn't the same approach but in the past especially when QVC was building their business their intention was for the host to be the friend in your living room.

So the other 390+ layoffs, the guy you don't know in Twitter admin, numerous other tech employee layoffs are apples & oranges. I'm not of the opinion either way as to perceptions of QVC hosts but wanted to give you history on the channel so you could understand why a host leaving can be missed.

If one Googles "how many job layoffs in 2023".... if you're looking for other Company message boards to bombard with outrage about thier layoffs..... it makes QVC'S 400 out of 27,000 people look like peanuts.

@rockygems123 - it's ok for people to miss a host- but some things I've read- it's gotten to the point of obsession over them being laid off. Times change but some people can't wrap their heads around the fact that these people were TV sales people.

@Glitter51. I think what you said about times change is important as some people really have a tough time with it.

Personally I love change as I run my own business and if I don't adapt then I won't be successful. Works for my personal life too.

Hmmmmm.....I found "change" to be refreshing too...!!!

I did it about 9 times over my life so far ( sig others!!!).

Each one brought something to the table, then we all had to reshuffle and re-emerge to fight again!!! And it made us all stronger!!

Gotta shake things up!!!!

Don't know about others, QVC intentionally created a homey family environment, wanted viewers to get to know the hosts, encouraged them to tell us personal stories. We met their family members, their dogs and cats, went with them on their vacations and other trips. My word, we followed some of them over 20 years. We're not robots with no feelings.

Just because all companies sever their relationship with employees this way doesn't make it ethical.

Of course, I'm concerned about the other 395 people, but do we know who they are? I don't.

SOME people may have got that involved, if someone held a gun to my head I couldn't tell you ANY of what you mentioned about the hosts.

If you're that invested in a TeeVee personality, maybe it's time to get out more.

That's not to say that people do get that involved.

But...do they BUY????

I never see that mentioned. I see squirrels, calm voice, vacations, daughters, weddings, graduations etc...but DO THEY BUY?!?!?!?

YOU may care about all that dreamy stuff.....

Qurate does NOT...that dollar figure in the last column of their quarterly sales report is ALL that matters, and it better not have parentheses around it ( a LOSS).

Lesson here to be learned...It's TEEVEE people NOT real life.

@Foxxee . And just think, as you say we followed them for over 20 years...and that was before a lot of current social media, i.e. FB, Instagram where following someone's profile is with a simple key stroke "like" or "heart".

We actually had live current information and followed with sentiment not a key stroke.

As to "It's TEEVEE people NOT real life" - there are real human beings behind that TEEVEE screen. That's what concerns some viewers.

No need to belittle or mock those who feel differently about what's happened to them.

They aren't just images on a screen, as some would like to say. I don't understand those invested in telling others to get a life or "it isn't real". For those who don't care, fine. Just move on and let people vent, if they need to.

You're both right; for many, it's personal and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm sure Carolyn and Dan are heartened to know that many will miss them. Who wouldn't be after such a shock?

It's interesting that you know my habits so well when I really don't say that much about myself personally here. In fact, where have you been when I have been saying I watch QVC very little anymore...since QVC stopped broadcasting in the early morning hours. Is that around 3 years or...more?

"Dreamy stuff!" HA! It appears you know nothing about why QVC uses what you call "dreamy stuff."

Thanks for the suggestion I turn the TEEVEE off and take a walk; however, it doesn't apply and never did.

On another note, I understand why others feel as they do. It's obvious you don't. Maybe, I'm just better in business, marketing, and customer buying behavior.

QVC does like all that stuff...squirrels, family, vacations, pets, as long is it draws customers in and gets them to buy and they do buy Denim & Co.

Would you call it selfish to think just because something doesn't appeal to you it shouldn't appeal to others?

Do you work for Qurate, QVC, or HSN, because you're making it sound like you are privy to their policies as far as who they choose to lay off.

Do you really believe ANY hosts bought and owned 15 pairs of 70 dollar flip flops, which is why YOU should too? ( That was actually said last night on that Over 50 monstrosity).

b) I DO know how to read a financial report.

And yes I know that getting out, smiling at REAL people. trying to get to know something about someone different than yourself, or just plain getting fresh air does wonders for people, and keeps them from investing too much time in...

TEE VEE.

So what? I don't personally know other people on TV, but I think they are very good and an asset to the programs they are on. I think those programs would suffer if they were gone.

Well it's like this, some of us form attachments to people who come to us either on TV or other media sources & some don't.
Now I'm no pushover because some of the new hires I don't give 2 cents for, but Carolyn & Dan proved their worth as valuable employees of a shopping channel along with several others. The most recent hires, I think maybe 5 or 6 & I never watch them along with a few more recent hires

What I wonder is who are you & some others to criticize our feelings about what happened to two worthwhile people who did a great job, were blindsided (I'm sure they were)by an action that doesn't even allow them to retire?
