Carolyn's and Dan's Being Let Go Made the National News

When watching a station on Xfinity I sometimes put a program on "pause." If I leave it on pause too long, a series of pictures of places around the world plays, with news headlines across the bottom or on one side.

This afternoon I put a program on pause. I came back to restart it, and saw the headline at the bottom, something like "Longtime QVC hosts Carolyn Gracie and Dan Hughes leaving after 19 years and 33 years respectively."

We have all posted, and we all have our different thoughts, but when it makes headlines nationally it is a Big Deal!

I just cannot believe they let Carolyn go. My favorite hostess. Why would you layoff these good hosts and keep the annoying newbies? Maybe if QVC is having a hard time, it is because their prices are way too high.

No doubt they've acquired a sizable fan base over so many years.

Being public figures ensures more attention, than the rest of us who have retired after an equal numbers of years, if not more.

And, for most of us, it might have just been a cake, if even, with random goodbye's. With an almost palpable vibe from peers, that your exit implies freedom that they, too, are so longing for.

They pretend they're happy for you, but internally they hate you at the same time. At least my peers were willing to admit this. Lol.

It's a bigger deal than the fact that two fairly well-known hosts were let go. It hit the news because the West-Chester area will be affected financially. Four hundred jobs gone means less money filtering down to that area. Real estate, restaurants, related businesses, etc. will cut into the regional community.

Those people working there have families to support, food to buy, mortgage payments, rent. All things that ripple through a community. Not to mention a corporation that is losing money and may fade away.

@RoughDraft I was under the impression those 400 people were from both QVC and HSN. However, yes, those people have families and it is sad, but this stuff happens every day all over the United States. I hope they can find new jobs. This too shall pass

I agree. Several of the newer hosts ( i will not name ) are totally boring and have no appeal. I would imagine the salaries of Dan (especially) and Carolyn may have had something to do with their being let go. Mary Beth, Jayne B., Jane T, Rick, Leah, David, have all been a long time as well but they must bring in more sales. I would guess the items they are trying to sell may have something todo with it as well. Dan had a challenge I would say. Carolyn did it all and she was a very good host , asked great questions of reps and explained things well. Too bad.

Maybe the Carolyn you see presenting is not the same person behind the scenes and management noticed and took care of it. I do agree there are others that need to retire.
