Why are organic baby clothes always so expensive?

Hello everyone,

Me and my husband have recently been blessed with a baby boy. Along with the immense joy and happiness, comes dozens of responsibilities of parenthood. For instance, selecting the proper clothes of the baby. We have always been recommended to use Edited to remove link I wanted tso know why this category of clothes are so expensive than the normal fabric clothes? Also what characteristics make it so popular among the buyers?

That's interesting - I didn't know organic clothing was a thing. It's probably more expensive for the same reasons organic food is more expensive.

Just my opinion but in general organic baby clothes for the most part is a marketing gimmic making parents feel they are doing something better for their baby and the environment. Organic cotten tends to be hand picked vs machine which will make it VERY expensive to produce.

As for the baby the only advantage is if your baby has very sensistive skin organic cotton may reduce reactions. If not is not woth the extra cost.

As with most items for babies, women have been having babies. Our children survived without organic cotton clothes and have been just fine.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby!

I would say they are more expensive probably because of the fabric, sourcing and the process involved in preparing. I know you want the very best for your baby and for him to be comfortable and happy. Maybe just regular cotton baby clothes would work just as well and would not be so expensive unless baby has extra sensitive skin or has other health issues? In any event, blessings to you and your family on this wonderful new addition to your family!!!!

Just another way to get people to overspend... "Organic" is wonderful for items you are ingesting/ eating! But Unless the baby has dermatology issues, organic clothing is completely pointless. BTW, I am a scientist.

Clothes are clothes. Do you wear organic clothes? It's just another marketing gimmick to make you feel guilty and to spend more. Baby will be fine in clothes from Target or Walmart. After all, they just puke or poop in them. Save your money for college.

Cotton production, harvesting, ginning, making into fabric, and finally into consumer goods is a complicated process. Unlike the foods we consume, I see no advantage to organic farming of cotton. Environmentally friendly farming is much more widely desirable.

Please note the cotton harvest this year in one of the largest cotton producing areas of the country was practically non-existent due to the exceptional drought. We do not know how this will affect consumers since the cotton itself reflects so little of the cost of an item. The lack of availability could become a driving factor in the price of goods.

I think more important might be the type of detergent you use to wash the baby's clothes in.
