Hosts Coming Off Their Shift

I used to think it was my imagination but after this past week, I don't think so. Has anyone noticed hosts taking off like a shot when their shift ends? Imagine a host being joined by the host about to take over for them. In many instances, I have noticed certain hosts being in a big hurry to get off air even when they are expected to transition briefly with the next host. I find that so rude and it looks like they can't wait to get away from their job. Now I know everyone likes to go home but don't make it that obvious. I saw it again this evening and it doesn't seem right. Be a bit more discreet.

In answer to your question, no, I never noticed. I do know that they are all there for at least an hour or more BEFORE they take over a show. They probably work much more than 8 hour days.

That being said, when my shift was over, unless there was something dire to report, one has only to see the skid marks I left as I exited to know what I did.

When I worked I was out the door at 4:00. Not a minute longer. I owed the company 8 hours and no more.

@Elizabeth03 I noticed this for the first time Monday. Toward the end of the Dennis bassi show Amy announced that she could go home. With that...poof she was gone!

Bingo! The biggest culprit. She was expected to work with the host initially showing Dennis Basso coat. You could see she didnt want to be there and was looking for a way to get off set. It appeared rude. I have worked for 40 years. I know what its like to want to go home. Thats not my point. Its how you do it in front of a huge home audience that makes the difference You should not be that obvious. She did it again tonight. This time literally running off the set.

@Elizabeth03 I understand. Admittedly I thought it was odd. I get when your ready to get off from work your ready to go but gosh....that was different!

@Elizabeth03 tell you what,when both shifts of my jobs are over,yes,I exit out fast.im sure hosts have things to do at home like myself

Then you missed what she said. She was over her time, she had just stayed to act goofy with Dennis and Shawn. She had been off for I believe 20 minutes or so, and she said basically she needed to go home.

Like many people, they don't want to stay at work any longer than necessary. It's called "work" for a reason.

@Elizabeth03 ..........I hope you know that the presentations are not the only times the hosts work. Throughout the years hosts have mentioned being at work in their offices, going to meetings, etc., you know normal working stuff. They are as ready as any working person to go home. Such a trivial thing.

I've not noticed it but I'm guessing they're trying to move out the way so the sets can be fixed for the next show. I know when I worked and it was time to go home, I've had people follow me out to my car asking work questions and I wouldn't even slow down Of course, it may be because they're the busy moms they're always talking about and they need to move on to their families.

This post makes me think of the old show that would use big hooks to move people off the stage, was it The Gong Show? I know they got gonged but it seems that when the gong would be ignored, they'd use the hook. Thanks for the memories and the laughs!

I don't blame them for leaving like that. Their shift is over and they have lives outside of Q. Besides, I can't imagine talking about some of these products for 2-3-4 hours.

Unless you have been asked to stay past your shift, the employer is not responsible for any pay or accidents you might have.

If I understand correctly, some hosts are being called out for leaving promptly at the end of their shift??

They get to the studio hours before they go on air -- many have said this on multiple occasions. They have a 3, 4, sometimes 5 hour shift on air. Then they leave as soon as they are done. --

Good for them.

The backstage crew must then come on and take away their set, and then bring on & set up the next item for sale. The next host undoubtedly wants to get situated for their upcoming show. The next show sometimes starts with no break in between -- time is money.

Whether they announce they are going home to their family, or just say "Bye, have a nice evening shopping..." it's the same effect -- move it out so the next host can sell ASAP.

Maybe they need to get home for some reason, or have an appointment, or even a date!. Honestly, I just don't watch that closely.

I would want to exit if

Shawn was the next host too. She is exhausting.

But agree with all of the above regarding shifts, etc. Having to be "on" for hours at a time like that would sure tire me out!
