Wondering about Joan Rivers line

Sure has been a LONG TIME since new JR fashions and/or jewelry. Wonder if this line is being discontinued? I would hate to see that, but it could probably use some tweaking. I really like when they introduce new earring sets with say 3-4 pair in each set. And I would love their boyfriend shirts with roll tab sleeves if they were not cotton that needs ironing.

@just wonder As others have also observed, the line does appear to be declining. It's gotten quite stale and over-priced. Frankly, I don't think David Dangle is much of a designer and they made a mistake by not hiring someone with more experience. So much of what he has offered looks like men's clothing and those buttons up the back got old after the first one. He's sort of a one-trick pony.

I agree, the line is stale for sure. It hasn't been the same since she's been gone. Though in all honesty, I loved her but I always thought it was overpriced because IMO, the quality was just not there. I do own a couple of her tassle necklaces which I adore and I feel it's my piece of her legacy.

I really miss Joan's special brooches. I have many of her limited edition pins and they are all fantastic. No one makes pins like that now!

That's an idea - discontinue everything in the line except the pins. Joan's bee pins were pretty hot for a while.

That clothing line has turned into Bigshirt Central. To me it looks like a collection of clothing that Joan would have never worn.

I wonder how many more of her expensive original jewelry pieces there are left to copy. They would probably sell some of the ones they have made in the past if they brought them back.

@faeriemoon It looks like something David Dangle would wear. He obviously doesn't iron and isn't familiar with the hot, laborious process.

I have been wondering about this line also. I actually like the botfriend shirt style - although I could do without the buttons up the back feature. There have been no new items in weeks so it looks like it may be gone.

It's been years since David has shown anything Joan would have worn! Don't understand the line any longer or the high prices for boxy boyfriend shirts.

I miss the great style jackets of years ago and natural fabrics of Joan's blouses which were always classic in design.

The pockets are the only reason to buy them.

The shirts work best as a shirt jacket especially over a tank in summer.
Protection from the sun and still relatively cool.

Pockets are critical for those who don't want to be burdened with a bag, even a lightweight or small bag.

Their cotton doesn't wrinkle that much and it's not even noticeable in a casual setting. Wash and hang to dry. Couldn't be easier.

Bitsy Jennings is still representing the Joan Rivers brand fairly frequently in shows on QVC 2. But the items she presents are always the clearance stuff that has been around a while. Bitsy also still presents the brand on The Canadian Shopping Channel, TSC. All JR fashion and jewelry there is just reduced, clearance, and/or final sale.

I haven't seen David Dangle presenting on QVC, on any channel, in a long time.

The brand does appear to be on its way out. Only Great Hair Day seems to be still in demand.

I have a few big shirts, and some of the newer denim shirts. Excellent quality, on the expensive side, but I'll have them forever.

Oh, Everyone! I wish you had been around 25 years ago, when Joan Rivers Jewelry was fabulous! Heavily gold plated, so well constructed, and made in Providence, Rhode Island. I bought so much because I dressed for work every day, and I always added a Bob Mackie silk scarf with a JR pin on my shoulder. I still have all the jewelry and I will never part with it even though I am retired.

It's kind of a joke now, cheap and made in China. And sadly, no more beautiful silk blouses and silk scarves from Bob Mackie either. And now that Louis and his Linea line are gone, everything is an $80.00 tee shirt from Logo or a pair of jeans.

I will say that the embroidered tee shirts from Quacker Factory are amazing! Worth every penny, well made, and so pretty!

@65and fabulous You are right about the great quality of the old Joan Rivers jewelry that was made in Rhode Island. My old pieces look like new. I always wore her pins to work on a jacket or heavy sweater. I have many of her large pins and bee pins.

Some of the pins were recreations of antique pins that she owned.

I have many of her pearl necklaces. They have some weight and substance to them.

The Bob Mackie scarves were beautiful and I have a couple of those. I have silk tunics and scarves from Diane Von

Furstenberg from her QVC collection in the 90's.

All the jewelry from sterling silver to 14 K & 18 K gold, with or without gemstones were high quality and we bought it all at great prices.

Sadly the younger generation does not appreciate Joan Rivers. We have a new generation of women who are dressing sloppily and very casual just look in the stores what they are wearing.... Joan always dressed to the nines. And this David Dangle character is not doing the line any favors. I tuned out once Joan passed.

I consider myself lucky to have snagged two JR Plaid Big Shirts last Fall. I wore them throughout winter and just wore one yesterday. I also have many of jewelry items that I still wear. Another one bites the dust.

Listen, we’ve all hit a “bump” in the world….the Pandemic has played a major role in our lives and will continue. We’re all dressing more casually. I am sure when young women in the 60’s went out of the house hatless and w/o gloves, our mothers were dismayed. We are evolving.
I have purchased many a JR top over many years. Why? because the tops fit in the bust, the quality was great and the price point doable.
I did not like the length (5’3 and shrinking), or the nuisance tabs under the sleeves. Thank you…I like to roll my sleeves up w/no tab hanging loose. I do not utilize the pockets, EVER. However, the quality and fit of the garment trumped the negative.
That stated, in purchases the last year, the price has increased significantly to the point I wonder if the Q really wants to continue to sell this line. The quality has decreased, especially w/some of the fabric. Also what is with the flimsy, minuscule collar? Why bother? My take, a collar/neckline frames the face and is so important.
I miss Joan, yes. I think David is a great brand ambassador. I wonder what role the Q plays in design, price point and manufacturing. David may be hog tied in this regard. I prefer to give him the benefit of doubt rather than to personally bash a career he so loves and is clearly passionate.
