Shawn, please stop saying “it’s normally $xxx with tax & shipping.”

She takes the highest price, adds an arbitrary number, and then quotes a total that's even higher if you did the math of what she said. Just now, the highest QVC price on the item she is selling is $42.25. The sale price is $34.82. She said "with tax & shipping, the regular price is WELL over $50.00" even though the shipping is $3.50 and tax is $3.17 where I live, so the total is actually LESS than $49.00. Yes, obviously if something is on sale, it's a lower price, but anyone can do the math & do an apples/apples comparison. But instead she'll then go on about something else to do with the item, but not mention the actual price with tax & shipping, so you are supposed to think you're saving more than you really are - silly sales tactic, not even sure if it's legal, and insults the intelligence of the customers IMO. Simply no need for it, she does it often, people know tax & shipping is added to whatever the price is and can make their own conclusion. She's a great salesperson, she doesn't need to stretch the truth!

If she didn't mention the additional cost of shipping and taxes, some would probably complain about that, too! It is so silly to be bothered by this!

Each host has his or her style presentation, BUT they are there to promote items. It most definitely is a sales tactic. Reminds me of an item costing $1.99 rather than rounding it to $2.

@Jaspersmom Too bad my ex was not a salesman - when something cost $299.00, he'd say "it's only $200." instead of rounding up as I would.

BTW -- I used to love Shawn's coining new words and phrases, but I doubt math is also one of her strong points. Just guessing, of course.

Lately, I hear ... "Just $12.50 brings it home."

So to our ears and mind, the low number for one month's easy pay will create enthuasium to purchase. My multiplication skills from grade school is really paying off since I can do $12.50 x 5 in real time.

Shawn must do this all the time because I don't watch her often, yet I've heard her compare prices like that whenever I do watch some of her show.

Most of the hosts have their sales script. Shawn uses the original QVC price + shipping + estimated tax, and then rounds up that total price. Then she compares it to that day's sales price, but leaves out the shipping & tax. .

Other hosts will compare the original (highest) QVC price, and then say "but you can get it home for under $20 today!" Of course, that's the easy pay $20.

I'm used to it. I do my own math before spending my money. No biggie. That's why I consider all the hosts sales people. They may be called "hosts," but they are sales people. Nothing wrong with that.

Yep, and a similar situation is when they are selling a laptop and talk about all the software and free trial offers included with the computer and they include the cost of all this software to make it look like they are offering an even better deal.....BUT are any of the customers actually going to even USE any of this extra software....David uses this sales gimmick a lot when selling laptops....Here' a sample of the software suite:

Exactly! She conveniently doesn't mention that there is also additional shipping & handling on the lower sales price. So all I'm saying is that she should compare apples/apples, or just leave the S&H out of it altogether.

With the stupidity and poor grammar that comes out of her mouth, she will never be accused of being a rocket scientist. Is she that uneducated that she's unaware there is no such thing as a $26 bill? She'll do anything for attention and I'm often embarrassed for her. She often embarrasses others by asking personal and inappropriate questions. I don't know where her supervisors are as they need to rein her in.

It's a shame because she's another one I just don't take seriously enough to buy anything from...... Please don't get me wrong, I rather like her but I can't listen to her and therefore don't buy.
