I just read that Joan Rivers stopped breathing during an out patient procedure having to do with her vocal cords per report she was rushed to a New York City hospital . I am praying for her to recover!

Any thing can happen when you reach that age and have surgery, actually surgery is a risk at any age.

She didn't have "surgery". She had a simple endoscopy in her doctor's office, not in a hospital even. This is a normal, common procedure. People of all ages get them all of the time for various reasons, this is always a risk, but rare. I've had them myself.

She stopped breathing for a moment, and they got her to Mt. Sinai hospital where she remains. I'm sure they will keep her forever under careful watch because of who she is, taking absolutely no chances, as they should.

My prayers are with her.

Throat procedures, although routine, are always at risk of serious complications, like heart arrhythmias and breathing can stop. And at 81, she would tend to metabolize medications differently than a younger person.

I read Joan was having minor surgery on her vocal chords. Who knows if it's true!

It is true. She was in a medically induced coma the last couple days. Sadly, she is now on life support.

Being on life support is part of the medically induced coma.

She was having an endoscopy at an endoscopy center on the Upper East Side in Manhattan.

We were so upset when we heard the tragic news about Joan Rivers. We are keeping only positive thoughts that she will recover soon. Our hearts are with Melissa and her extended family during this time.

Unfortunately, this is why you have to sign those serious papers when undergoing the simplest of any medical procedures. SH_T happens. My heart is breaking at her loss.

I really liked Joan Rivers, I thought she was brashly funny, what gets me are all the people on here "mourning" her loss when just a couple of months ago everyone on here wanted her gone along with Paula Deen.

I am very sorry she is gone now and I stood up for her when everyone else was against her.

Goodbye Joan, you will be missed, your style can never be replicated.

MARLOCAT, great job with your graphics, as always. Very nice job.

That is a very lovely picture of Joan. I think she is a very beautiful woman, for whatever age, regardless if it is from plastic surgery or not. She was beautiful on the inside too. So generous with her love and her philanthropic endeavors.She gave away as much of her time and money as she earned. There were several charities, food sources, etc., that she kept running through her singular donations that she didn't even want the public to know about. She didn't want the credit, just gave of her love and heart for those she cared about.

In every facet of her life she was an incredible, lovely woman. I will miss her for a very,very long time.
