No More Q Card For Me

Tried the Q Card and it is not for me. Too easy to run up your bill with easy pays and credit card company is very difficult to deal with. Anyone else experience this?

I have a friend who had a bad experience. She went thru hard times (domestic situation), and she needed every penny to pay for rent and food & necessities for her kids. She worked out payment arrangements with QVC and a couple of other companies to be sure she would stay out of Collections.

She honored the payment arrangements with all of them - paid at least the designated amount and always paid well before the due date. Everything went fine with the other cards. But QVC suddenly put her in Collections. She had a long, hard fight with them, but she won because she was able to prove she had honored the agreement.

So yes, I would agree that they're difficult to deal with. I wouldn't get a Q card under any circumstances ever.

It's not QVC, it's the bank that holds the CC. If you as the adult request one you're the responsible party. It's that way with any CC.

Yes, I know all of that. I think most people do. Obviously the person who requests the card and accepts the terms is the responsible party.

You are correct .... as an adult we are responsible for the card. BUT what NYC Susan said was her friend negotiated an agreement with the credit card company and was fulfilling the commitment per the agreed upon terms when QVC's credit card company decided to renege on the agreement and turn her in for collrctions. We are responsible for the credit card ..... at the same time the company allowing the bank to issue the card in their name also should have a responsibility to be sure their "credit card holders" are treated with honesty and respect. If what NYC Susan said is correct a complaint should have been filed with QVC and QVC should have investigated. An agreement made should be kept by all parties.

Exactly. She received written confirmation of the terms, and she honored those terms. The acceptable monthly payment amount and time frame were determined by them, and agreed to by her. It was mutally beneficial because it gave her some breathing room, and they knew they would be paid.

This is very common. I used to counsel women who were in over their heads financially, and I helped them with the process. Credit card companies would rather set up payment arrangments than be forced to chase after a non-paying customer. I never knew of a credit card company that didn't honor the agreement until this happened to my friend.

I don't have a Q card & use easy pay for all my Q purchases, I simply pay my CC balance off every month. Everyone is responsible for paying all their bills on time & if you don't there are unpleasant consequences...when you enter into an agreement with a CC company make sure you read the small print because you might find they're still free to call your balance due for any reason at anytime.

I agree with all of this. I always pay my credit card bills in full every month. It's easy for people to get in over their heads when interest and fees start to build up. I like to stay ahead of the game.

And yes, we should read and understand every word. I was at a doctor's office last week, and they wanted me to sign something. Of course I insisted on reading it, which seemed to be terribly inconvenient for them. It's always shocking to me that other people just blindly sign whatever is put in front of them.

As I understand it, the same bank that handles Q cards also handles Amazon's cards as well. A few months ago, I read an article about that bank and I decided after that to close both the Q card and Amazon's card. I don't need them anyway, so it was easy and I felt better afterward.

I've had my Q card for several years. I can't recall a single issue that I've ever had. But I don't use easy pay, and I always pay the balance in full each month.

@NYC Susan Congratulations to your friend. I understand that challenging situations sometimes dictate difficult choices.

I basically use one credit card and pay it off each month (don't use easy pay). That information is for going forward for this OP's friend. However she might want to think about the following: It is my understanding that closing a credit card can effect your credit rating, especially if you have had that card for many years. That doesn't mean she has to use it or just put a couple of minimal charges on it a couple of times a year to keep it open.

I can understand having problems or issues dealing with any of the banks that issue credit cards. Some can be more difficult than others.

But I don't understand why the Q Card specifically should be any more of a problem than any other credit card. It works the same way as most store-specific credit cards. No better or worse from my perspective.

As far as 'easy pay' goes, you can use easy pay with any credit card. True, sometimes they offer more easy pays with their own card than a generic one, which might be more tempting.

And accumulating a large balance can also be a trap with any other credit card.

Synchrony Bank is the company that handles the credit card for QVC. They also handle credit cards for tons of other companies.

I have never had a problem with Synchrony. l used to have a Q card and paid it in full every month. After awhile I closed it because there was no benefit to having it. Now I pay for everything via Paypal and it pulls right out of my checking account.

You have to be aware of what you are spending with easypayments. That is up to each of us to pay attention to what we are spending so you don't end up with $100.00+ in monthly easypays.

i got rid of all my store credit cards like 15 yrs ago.. the little ones use to have sears when it was around.. etc. etc.. dont want a qvc card, never did,, i use my visa for all my purchases.. and i just recently bought a car and they check your credit.. my credit score was 804.. when i go in kohls etc they always try to push there card.. no thanks.

I'm paying off all my online retail cards.

Evine is paid, next is HSN. Then QVC

The primary reason is Synchrony, the holder.

To those who think it's because people don't pay their bills or manage their finances, it's not that simple.

Plus it always annoys me when they raise my credit limit

They should have to get permission from me.

I never know about it until I get the letter, "Congratulations....."

I really like having a Q Card. I signed up a couple years ago when a $40 account credit was offered, and although some complain that it is difficult to redeem, I experienced no issues with the process. Most of the time, I don't need Easy Pay, but having that as an option any time I want to take advantage of it—especially helpful when making multiple purchases during a free shipping event or when stocking up on holiday gifts—is very convenient. I also like the fact that all of my QVC purchases are on one card and those are the only charges on that card; it makes it easy to separate and track my spending (and any Easy Pays and returns). And because I take the extra step of tabulating both my minimum due and any monthly Easy Pays, I've never paid a dime in interest even in the rare cases when I've carried a balance from month to month. Like any credit card, this product is not for everyone, and there are certainly more benefits with other cards, but I've been happy with my Q Card overall.

(And just to clarify, in case anyone is interested, Synchrony handles the smaller-value Amazon Store Card, but Chase is the bank behind the Amazon Visa card.)

I have a QCard and there is no reason IMO to have one if you don't take advantage of the easy pay. That being said since the interest rate is so high almost 30%, you better be able to pay the balance each month in full. I have not used my QCard in months and am not cancelling it, but I will not use it and they will eventually close the account. I did have an Amazon Card too at one time, but never used it. IMO if these companies offer and push these credit cards and put their name on the card, they take the good with the bad. I would blame the Q too.

@blackhole99 Whoa...I would define that under loan shark. The QVC hosts have to tempt potential customers to get the Q card one or more times during each show. Imagine how many would actually get it if the upfront selling statement was the interest rate and not the 6 easy pays, % back or the $ up front 'gift'.

It's like falling for a trap for those that don't do their homework 1st before accepting the card. What I mean is I wonder what the % of folks who sign up take the time to find out the extremely high interest rate 1st.
