FRAUD EMAIL

I received an email supposedly from our bank. It said there had been a double charge on my account,didnt say which one. I would have to "click here" to verify some things to have them remove the double charge. It looked very official with the bank logo,an ID # etc.

I took it to the bank today....fraud. They said they don't check for double charges on accounts,it's my job to check my accounts for that and then let them know. That made sense.

Bottom line here DONOT click on anything you have even the least suspicion of. Rotten lowlifes trying to steal hard earned money.

We can’t trust anybody/anything in today’s world... so sad that we have to live like this 😭

I get notices that I absolutely trust, but I never respond to that email, I always go to the actual website to check and see if there are any messages. And low and behold there are, like from my mortgage company.

I would have just gone to my bank's website, check to see if there was a double charge, and when I saw that there wasn't, I would've deleted the email.

I would've save time & gas by doing that.

The Federal Trade Commission has a website for reporting scam emails:

spam@uce.gov

I forward all scam emails that l receive to this email address. I don’t know how successful the FTC is in catching these criminals, but it makes me feel better to report them!

I'm a little bit off topic here, but today I received two separate phone calls from Social Security telling me that my SS number had been SUSPENDED...etc. The calls were about an hour apart, same wording but two different voices and numbers.

Of course, I didn't pick up, but honestly they were so amateurish it made me wonder how dumb these people can be. I really hope that any recipients of this call were not scared off by the word "suspended" and realized that this was a scam.

get these emails all the time. DO NOT OPEN UP. I made the mistake of opening up one these emails and got blackmailed. As soon as I opened i started getting calls from my financial institutions telling me my computer was compromised and to change my passwords and to delete my contacts. They threatened me if I didn't deposit 500.00 into a bitcoin account that they would expose me to all my contacts. Don't you know watching the news they reported this and how many people got the same email. I googled this and found the email almost word for word that I received. I did not make any deposits but many people did. Be careful.

I'm with you, Jeanbhv. I always go directly to the actual website, even for my banking when they update my current CC rewards.

Funny you should mention this. Have rec'd 3 emails in the past week from "The Avenue" (plus-size women's clothing) saying I have 10 items in my cart that will be deleted if I don't check out. One even offered 25% off.

1. Don't have an online acct. with them, ever.

2. Have NEVER bought 10 items from any site at one time.

Did contact the real Avenue to let them know there's a scammer out there.

But boy...it's SO tempting to answer the scam and ask for 90% off, or when they ask for a CC number, use some colorful language in place of the numbers.

@handygal2 That website is probably as worthless as is the website for reporting violations of the "Do Not Call" List. I don't bother with reporting. I just chalk it up to another one out there.

These types of fraudulent emails have been going on since we've had emails! I thought everyone already knew to never open or click on links from emails that alert you to anything about your bank, insurance, tax, or social security accounts. This scheme is as old as time -- it's called phishing.

Phishing is generally blamed on America Online having their now outdated dial up internet service, where hackers would steal accounts in the early 1990's.

I also contact my bank from their website or number on the back of my ATM card to see where the bank wants fraudulent emails forwarded so the bank can also take action..... most have an email address to forward them (but dont click any links, just the forward button) to EXAMPLE: abuse@(name of bank or organization).com

I also got a fraud phone call yesterday....here is what happened to me..

I was home yesterday and the phone rang. The caller ID said...Credit card services.

When I answered a message started saying I was approved for a lower interest rate on my credit card (DIDNOT SAY which one) HINT ONE!!

And to begin the process press 1 for a representative to come on the line.

Of course

If I had pressed 1, the person would ask for all my information:

Name
social security number
etc.

DON'T FALL FOR ANY OF THESE TRICKS.

I received an email today to someone else with me as CC. It said their American Express was out on hold for 90 days until the fraud dept could check the charges. I don,t know why I got a copy of the email, nor do I recognize the name of the original recipient. I clicked on nothing, just deleted it.

This is why I check every credit card that I use daily. I also check my checking account. THe other thing is DO NOT ANSWER ANY HEALTH INS CALLS. This is very dangerous and I have notified my Ins. company that I will answer no questions on the phone. If they need to ask anything, mail it to me. If the questions are reasonable I will answer. I refuse to answer a lot of the stupid questions.
