In process - what does it really mean?

There have been multiple threads about the "in process" times and problems at QVC.

Does anyone know what actually is happening to our orders during the "in process" time?

Are they being plucked off the shelves? Are they being sent on some conveyer belt out to trucks? Are different vendors being notified if the item is at a manufacturer instead of in a QVC warehouse? Are there still QVC warehouses?

I guess I'd also like to know why it takes QVC so long when companies like Zappos and amazon can process AND ship within a couple of days.

All of the above. I assume the Q is huge with all the products and doesn't have an efficient way to pick the items. Amazon uses robots to do the picking and a person verifies it and packs it. They are leap years ahead of other big shippers. They are heavily into automation. The downside is that takes away jobs.

@GingerPeach. I guess you'll just have to go to West Chester and request a personal tour of the warehouse/shipping facility. To me, that would be more interesting than a trip through the studios.

Well now let me explain my version of In-Process and when it's actually shipped.

I order and they immediately state in my account that it's processing. After the second day, I usually will check back to see if it's been shipped. PROCESSING!! Ok, so I'll wait the next day (most of the time it's much longer) and check - SHIPPED!!! YAY!!!! Then another few days go by and it's still sitting at the facility over in Rocky Mount NC waiting for them to take it to UPS. Now I'm only about 20 miles away. They should allow the ones that are close by to mosey on over and pick it up. Right?? Save on Shipping because it has not left the facility.

Then it will ship and go pass my house heading to Raleigh NC. There it sits for maybe a day and a half maybe 2. Then it leaves and passes my house again to stop at my local Post Office where it will set for about 24+ hours, then it comes to me.

That my dear Q peeps are my interpretation of Processing. As you can see even when they say its shipped in ways it's still in the processing stage. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!

This is a first for me. I ordered Nick Chavez Thirst Quencher Hair spray July 10th. Never went to in processing and apparantly it was delivered yesterday July 12th. I went to get the newspaper today and there was the package. How did that happen???!!!

Processing means it hasn’t shipped yet.

In process means you can't cancel the order.

Right here with you. Mine leave RM, mosey on down to Ga. for a bit, move on to hang about in Conway, SC, head back to my local PO for a couple of days, while announcing that they have been ‘delivered’, and then, the day of delivery, opine that they are ‘out for delivery.’

It's pretty clear from these responses that no one actually knows.

No one knows what QVC is doing to the item right after we place the order and before it goes into some truck or vehicle. I am not interested in knowing whether or not the order can be cancelled or what routes the actual shipment takes from city to city.

My question concerns what happens to the items after ordering and before shipment.

Again, I ask: Are they being pulled from shelves? Are they put on a conveyer belt? Is this automated or done by hand? Are various vendors being emailed or otherwise electronically notified that they are the ones that need to address a boxed item and get it ready for shipment? What does getting it ready for shipment consist of?

The main question is why does it take so long when other vendors can prepare items and get them to us in just a couple of days?

I don't expect any answers. No one has ever found out.
