Good Afternoon, I've posted about 2 months ago desiding on or not to get an

colonoscopy . Well I went yesterday to the doctor and yes I'm getting it done next week. I have no issues but my primiry doctor says now that I'm over 50 it's time. So next week is it. I'm asking for up lifting prayers . I'm not overly worried but don't like knowing I'm being lighty under. But I know it's all for a good reason. So please keep me in your thoughts and prays .

I'm assuming that you will be put into a "twilight" sleep? I had an endoscopy last year and that's what they did with me. You go out very quickly and you are awake very quickly. It was a very peaceful feeling.

You are doing the right thing! I posted this before but in case you didn't see it - my daughter's father-in-law didn't like to even go to the doctor much less get a colonoscopy. He found out he had colon cancer at 52 and died 8 months later. It was heartbreaking watching him go through it and it pushed me to get one. Sending good thoughts your way!

@LBird, Good for you, getting this done is so important, its benifit outweighs the inconvenience . The prep is the big part you will do, not so bad, follow directions, piece of cake.You have my thoughts all will be fine, deep breath, you are good...Maryanne

For me it is the best sleep one can get. I wake up feeling so good and refreshed.

It is so worth it for the peace of mind knowing you are staying on top of your health. I've had many and am glad I did.

I have a family history of colon cancer so i have to go every other year.....don't love doing it....but preventive measures are def better then the alternative.....

i have a few tips for thre prep. when you mix it put it in the refrig and get it real real cold. then get a lemon cut it in quarters and after you drink the precribed amt stick a piece of lemon in your mouth and s**k. also if you can use a straw and s**k fast then use the lemon. most adults have 2or 3 polyps and they are easily removed and checked. just think-you won't have to do this for 10 years again. good luck!

I too have a strong family history of colon cancer, so I've had quite a number of colonoscopies starting from the age of 35.......thank God, they have all been fine.

The worst part of the procedure is the preparation the day before. As far as the actual procedure, once you come too afterwards, you most likely won't remember a thing that happened. Much luck to you dear.

I had this done about 5 years ago. Like you, I was afraid of the anesthia so I spoke to the man in charge of it and told him how worried I was. He reassured me completely. The whole process was VERY easy. I didn't even mind the prep. I will pray that you find it as easy as I did and yes I don't need another for 10 years.

I'm sorry about your daughter's father-in-law that is a very hard thing. Do you know if he had problems or systems at 52 that's way to early.

??? ..... I'm really not clear on what you're worried about when you're out, but if you talk to others who've had the procedure, you'll see there's really nothing to worry about. Please don't get worked up over nothing.

I am glad you decided to have this procedure as for some it can be a matter of living a healthier life. That said, I have had 15 Colonoscopies and 5 Double Balloon Enteroscopies(much more complex and some take hours) and while the prep isn't pleasant, the procedures usually are very forget worthy.

Rest easy knowing my many experiences and you will be just fine. Let us know how it goes for you. 50 years old? Oh to be so young again!

@LBird Good luck to you, I'm sure things will be fine.

My DH had his a year ago, he also said, that was the best rest he has had in a very long time. He was in and out of the building in less than an hour, felt great, we went out for a late breakfast.

His experience here was very good and fast. Other places, I would leave for a couple of hours and then return to get him. This new place, they asked me to stay because it would quick.

I've heard others say that the prep. is better, if you have light meals leading up to the test prep. It makes sense to me, I've had at least 3 tests and the smaller meals would have been better.

To those that have lost loved ones from this disease, I pray for your healing. It can be a long, drawn-out path and the family suffers greatly watching the deteriorating patient.

We had a dear friend go through years of treatment, passing away 7 years after diagnosis. Did all kinds of treatments, including experimental. It was difficult on everyone. I hope they have had time to heal.

My dad was diagnosed with early stage colon cancer at age 54. He did have issues, which he tried to ignore, until he just couldn't. He experienced weight loss, a big change in daily bowel habits; black stools and also the passing of fresh blood.

Dad finally told my mom what was going on, saw the doctor, and had a colonoscopy scheduled. He drank the prep, experienced severe pain but was unable to have a bowel movement. Mom took him to the ER, and he was admitted after testing found a cancerous tumor wrapped around his intestine. The tumor had squeezed the intestine to the point the inner opening was less than the diameter of a pencil eraser. That surgery took 18 inches of his intestine. No chemo or radiation was needed.

The cancer came back exactly 20 years later as an advanced stage rectal tumor. Dad made it thru surgery, barely escaping a colostomy. Unfortunately he never made it out of the hospital due to a simple staph infection that went septic and shut down his kidneys.

This test really is something you have to do for complete peace of mind. Sending very best wishes to you.

ask your Dr, for the Dulcolax and miralx prep but better than the other stuff

My last colonoscopy was a virtual one. Unfortunately, you still have to do the same awful prep; however, you don't have the anesthesia. I had no polyps, and it was a superb way to do this unpleasant test.

Best decision you have made for 2017! You will be so glad you did it. It is merely an inconvenience.....that is how to look at it. A couple days out of your schedule to do something POSSIBLY LIFESAVING FOR YOU. Bravo!👍

Its ridiculous for people to avoid this simple, painless procedure which has the potential of saving so many lives. I've had about 8-10 colonscopies and every time they've removed pre-cancerous polyps. I could easily be dead now if I hadn't had the first procedure over 20 years ago. It's nothing to fear but the patient has everything to gain.
