I learned about the necessity of iodine and began taking some of that. My last blood work showed that the Armour could be decreased, which showed that the iodine was filling a need I had.

I had plenty of Armour so wanted to cut them to decrease the dosage. It was mentioned that they crumble. Boy, you ain't kiddin'!

@Teddie If you want to try the Acella NP I thinks it's pretty close to the original Armour. You can cut those in half.

I always wondered if I needed some iodine. The doctor was going to check mine & decided not to. He said you could not be low with all the salt in processed foods, fast foods etc. We don't eat much fast food, don't use iodized salt, & stay away from as much processed foods as possible. We will use fresh or frozen when available. When we use salt we use Himalayan Sea Salt.

Thanks @Nightowlz I'm trying to cut my pills into 2/3 and then using 2 of the 1/3. Such a pain! And like I said, they're not cutting well.

From what I understand about iodine, salt doesn't provide what we need, even the iodized version. I'm currently taking about 37.5 mg capsules. The Japanese women get much higher amounts of iodine and do very well.

Right now I have sea salt but have been wanting to get the Himalayan pink salt so that'll be next.

This article is good and may help you with deciding what you want to do about getting more iodine. Best wishes to you!

http://www.lifeextension.com/magazine/2011/10/the-silent-epidemic-of-iodine-deficiency/Page-01

Before I retired I was a nurse and I also have had thyroid disease for 20 years. Lipid functions can be affected by the thyroid. In my case I never had an issue with my Lipid Profile so consequently when I started treatment, I never saw a change in my levels. Some people respond quickly to thyroid treatment and others have a difficult time in the beginning getting their level to get to into the normal range. If you are being treated by your PCP, I would suggest seeing an Endocrinologist. Their knowledge goes well beyond what a PCP can do. If you have any concerns with your health, I would seek out your medical professional. Hope that I have helped you a little bit.

If your labs are where they need to be I don't think it's from that.

I know there were several labs where mine were high but my thyroid labs were off. Once that was back where it needed to be my triglycerides followed. The doctor tried to put me on statins. I told him No. I told him I was not taking them since my thyroid labs were off I felt that was the cause. I was right. It happened when my TSH got up to 70 when Armour reformulated their thyroid pills.

Have you tried to take Plant Sterols to lower your cholesterol?

Everyone was well into their 90's before they died. None of them had heart disease

Cherry, have you tried a low dose statin such as 10mg of lipitor? I recently got my labs back and I reduced my numbers to excellent. I refused statins previously due to severe muscle pain. It was dosage related and I have no side effects from the very low dosage.

I was told in the Cath lab as the interventionalist was putting in stents that if I had taken a statin, I would never have been there. It was a bitter pill to take.....

edited to add.....I have Hashimoto's Disease and used to have high triglycerides...around 200.
