Pneumonia Shot

For the last 2 winters I have had pneumonia and was close to death. 62 and never a smoker, exercise about 5 times a week and average size. This year my new doc gave me a stronger RX than the usual zpac which does nothing. I was over it in 10 days and my follow up apt. yesterday I got a shot and signed a waver. My insurance is Tri Care standard. Fingers crossed, as the price was $423!!! I hope it is covered.

This is the newer pneumonia prevnar 13. Anyone else have a high price like this?

I had the stronger shot for pneumonia but my insurance paid for it. I have no idea of the cost of the shot

I received the new pneumonia shot last month and my insurance covered it.

Tricare upped the age on the pneumonia shot for coverage. I think it may be 65 now. Maybe they will make an exception for you, but we all know how that usually works out. Good luck.

Wow, that's crazy! I'm so sorry.

I got the pneumonia vaccine last year, but I don't know which one. Mine was covered by my insurance and I have no idea how much it cost, I just paid my regular co-pay when I saw my doctor.

I got both my pneumonia shots already and both were covered 100% by my medicare advantage plan.

I didn't know it was that expensive but OP, if your insurer denies it, you should appeal. The vaccine isn't just preventative for you. You can document that you have had pneumonia twice, recently. If it's denied, call your insurer and ask how you can appeal the denial but whatever the process is, you will need a letter from your doctor documenting that you have had pneumonia this winter and last winter.

Never had to pay. Have had two boosters hin the last couple of years.

I had the same shot as I have had regular pneumonia twice, and Aspiration Pneumonia, with my 1st heart attack. That brought me closer to dying than either of my 2 heart attacks.

My insurance paid for mine.
