I just don't see how you can get enough protein if you don't have some meat in your diet.

I had good success strictly limiting refined white flour and sugars but I cannot do a strict "low/no carb" diet. I feel like cr*p if I do not get carbs from some source. I ate modest amounts of fruits and whole grains as my carb sources and lost nearly 50 pounds. Carbs are your body's main source of energy and trying to eliminate them completely is not a good idea. I ate mostly whole foods-fresh meats, veggies, fruits, and YES dairy because I love it, although I guess it's not technically a whole food.

However, if you're really set on doing the very low carb thing, probably the Atkins plan or some sort of Paleo plan. Good luck!

Thank you. I was doing Weight Watchers but not their current plan, it was an older plan. I find their newest plan VERY restrictive.

Another thing to keep in mind is slow and steady. It took me over a year to lose the weight but that was OK with me. I had seen too many friends lose it too fast and put it right back on. That's a whole other war......sigh......keeping it off......

Carbs provide your body with energy. I live on carbs...live foods. I don't eat meat/dairy/oil/salt/refined sugar/processed foods. This lifestyle is becoming much more mainstream. For me it has been a lifelong process. Everyone reaches their own conclusions about what they feel is best for themselves. My choices are based on health, concern for all sentient beings, and the wellness of our planet. Not all calories are the same. A "healthy eating plan" depends on perspective. I honor everyone's choice. I wish you much success on your journey.

I will keep eating primarily my complex carbs thank you.

hckynut(john)

@hckynut

ITA. Carbohydrates are the foundation of healthy eating/living. They provide energy, fiber & are pretty cheap, to boot. People continually confuse cheap, processed snacky carbohydrates w/ clean, fresh, whole foods carbohydrates & ban them from the grocery cart. Like I've said numerous times, Diabetes should reduce the Fat, not the Carbohydrates. Like you, I don't understand all the Carb bashing...nonsense, indeed!

--------------

Atkins, Grain Brain, Wheat Belly, Whole30, Keto, Primal anything....with all these low carb, high fat diets being touted this time of the year, I'm stunned the public still falls for this nutritional scam. I would think now, especially now with the MULTIPLE celebrity deaths caused by heart issues, the Public would wake up and make the nutritional connection with heart disease, aches/pains, kidney failure, early death & bad nutrition.

One day, decades from now, the Public will figure out a Plant Based diet (preferrably low fat, whole foods) will extend their life by decades.

Maybe a young poster of these boards will think, 'Gee, I remember that poster, sidsmom, talked about plants all the time...she really DID know what she's talking about!!

The 2016 Celebrity Death Chart should be an ominous predictor what we're doing...isn't working. Obesity off the charts. Diabetes off the charts. Heart disease off the charts. Obviously the popular way isn't working. Shame it will be too late for many...but as long as they look good in skinny jeans, it's ok. Nope.

Health starts on the inside....no medications should be everyone's goal.

Make the connection. It's all about the food.
