Suggestion if applying for Obamacare

I just re-upped my health insurance coverage for next year. The customer service rep asked if I wanted to add dental - I asked how much - only $16.39 a month! I jumped at the chance. My annual cleaning is more than that so it will pay for itself right off the bat. You might want to just ask about it if you are signing up. I reallly thought it would be outrageous for dental coverage. I wish I had asked about it last year.

We get an annual eye checkup and hearing check up on our health insurance and the dental is an annual cleaning - those are all free with the policy. However, the dental does not cover any work that may need done so we decided to buy some dental ins. beside.

It does pay to look into all options. It is hard, though, as so much is riding on your decision.

When we had to sign up for 8/1/16 ACA coverage, dental care wasnt even an offered option. We would have jumped at the chance to be covered as well. We have to get another plan b/c our premium for 2017 will have gone up 300%-monthly premium more than our monthly mortgage payment.

The good news is that as a cancer survivor I will only need to see oncologist and surgeon 1x next year. It's the mammograms I'm going to be sweating (scared). My longterm meds are minimal as are DH's. DH has cardiac disease; we both aren't old enough for Medicare yet.

We work with an ACA Navigator through a social service agency to help us.

I have good medical insurance with limited dental. I upped it and even with its max limits I still have so many hoops. It really doesn't in the end cover all that I thought. I have insurance that is State sponsored... retired school teacher. Feel lucky I don't have to put up with what my daughter does. She is anxiously waiting for new options.

When looking for dental insurance we found the best was through organizations we belong to like AARP or the Elks. We ended up buying the one the Elks offers their members. Sometimes professional organizations, which is where we had our dental before DH retired.

@Mz iMac - Looks like bitewings, exams and cleanings are covered 100%. Fillings, root canals, extractions are covered 50% with 50 deductible. (that's my plan). I know my cleaning cost and exam are over $200 so it will pay for itself.

That is a darn good deal for a dental plan. Will relay that to a few of my neighbors who have Obamacare for them to check out.

Most private insurance companies (which are all you can buy through Obamacare) also offer dental - whether you purchase through the marketplace (and get help with premiums) or if you buy directly from the insurer.

Just check to see what dentists are in the network - not all participate.

My dentist offers private insurance (many do that too) - two cleanings a year, Xrays for $168/yr. - plus 50% off procedures. You have to pay the $168 upfront in full though.

The insurer I worked for had great dental plans for kids...you can sign up without buying their health insurance too. We had a lot of members who didn't get dental through work - buu who signed up through our company as a stand alone plan.

Dental insurance is not included with Obamacare unless your covering your children, receive subsidy and cost share reduction. If you are working with an insurance agent they should offer or ask if you want dental coverage but it has nothing to do with Obamacare care. Navigators and unlicensed agents in Florida I do not believe can offer dental, you can have an agent help you for zero cost.
