Makes you think twice about neck manipulation. I was never one to go to a chiropractor, and I'm not trying to indict all of them.

This young woman was originally from our area. She had moved to LA to start her modeling career. I have had neck manipulations in the past but I will second guess this next time.

I go to medical doctors, period. Why on earth would anyone go to a chiropractor, podiatrist, optometrist, etc.? I am not saying that they are all bad at all, but I want the best medically educated person looking at my body, eyes, bones, feet, whatever. This came up when I was little and our maid, Mary, was off for awhile with a broken bone--I was young but I think it was a rib--because of a chiropractor. I had lots of questions, as kids do, so mother told me all about the importance of going to MEDICAL DOCTORS.

A new report by the Los Angeles Coroner's Office suggests a fatal stroke suffered by a Playboy model may have been caused by a visit to a chiropractor. The Los Angeles Coroner's Office released a report Wednesday specifically saying the cause of her death was "neck manipulation by chiropractor" that triggered the stroke.

She fell HARD during a photo shoot...which caused her to go for treatment. Of course there's no way coroners can determine which action caused the underlining stroke.

Killed her? Wow. What a false statement.

Technically, a stoke killed her.

I decided to never go to a chiropractor years ago when I heard about people having strokes etc. I would never want someone to crack my neck or back EVER.

And so do sll kind of doctors.

I've used chiropractic off and on since I was about 29 and have lived now to be 75. I trust my current chiropractor more than I do some of my "regular" doctors - she'd really been my #1 docotr since the early 80's, but she never seems to hesitate telling me to see my GP or whichever specilist she deems appropriate.

I'd probably never see a doctor if I eliminated each kind based on the experience of one doctor and one patyient when what we know about is one experience.

My general practioner told me it's ok to go to a chiropractor, but don't let him manipulate your neck. Good advice.

Since my fall down a flight of stairs in 2010 where I had 3 brain bleeds and a concussion, it was also determined that I have a pinched nerve in my neck. I discovered on my own that if I twist my neck to the left or right and tork it as hard as I could, I would get a form of relief from the pain/pressure that is there most of the time.

I did this one morning as I woke up (the worst time for my neck) and within five minutes the room was spinning, I became clammy and nausous, vomited and had to relieve my bowels. It lasted almost half a day and I was "shaken" all day.... I was told by my doctor to never treat my neck like that again.... and believe me the experience was so horrible I never, ever will.... and no one (including a Chiropractor) will never get near my neck!

Autopsy results reveal that Katie May died after visiting a chiropractor’s office and sustaining a fatal tear to an artery in her neck, TMZ reported Tuesday.

The outlet obtained a copy of May’s death certificate, which says the late Playboy model and “Queen of Snapchat” died as a result of “neck manipulation by chiropractor” that tore her vertebral artery and subsequently cut off blood flow to her brain. Her death was ruled accidental, although it’s not known if the model’s family will pursue further action against the chiropractor.

The 34-year-old died in February this year after suffering a stroke due to blockage in her carotid artery. According to a TMZ report at the time, the model fell during a photo shoot and subsequently visited a chiropractor’s office, where the tear to her vertebral artery occurred.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told People magazine that May’s cause of death was listed as “infarction of brain.”

“She had some clotting and went to the hospital where they tried to do some procedures but she passed away,” he told the publication. “I personally have not seen this before.”

Don't see how anyone could determine if it was

an underlying condition, the hard fall during the photo shoot or

the treatment. Maybe that's why the family hasn't moved

forward to seek legal damages from the clinic. If the family

wants $$, the clinic would be the path of least resistance, tho.

I have gone to the same chiropractor for about 15 years for lower back and IT band issues. I can go six months to a year without needing him, and then I am back. However, he never touches my neck.

For those skeptical about chiros, my family doctor recommends mine as does my massage therapist. My husband was not a believer until he had spinal stenosis. Not wanting to take pain pills, our family doctor sent him to mine and he is now a believer.

I had neck manipulations all the time, but my chiro would stretch out my neck each time. I moved and the new chiro never did that. Then at my last visit he hyperextended my neck and I couldn't look to the left for weeks. Had to go for a massage to get it worked out and loosened up. Will NEVER go to a chiro after that. I got myself a Teeter and love it - will never have a need to pay to get my back manipulated again.

I have gone to a chiropractor for years and feel so good after a visit. I have arthritis in my back and knees plus one leg is a little shorter than the other and he puts everything in alignment. However, I do get a little anxious when he does my neck but my sinuses feel better after he does. Also, he does not hesitate to tell me to see my family doctor when necessary.

Let me add that I was doing physical therapy for a while and she had no problem with me going to a chiropractor.

There are chiropractors who stick to treating patients with *traditional* chiropractic manipulations who help many people.

There are also chiropractors who do not believe they have any limitations and believe they are capable of tackling any ailment (or more to the point, increase their income) to the point of outright quackery, in ways that no longer have anything to do with literal hands-on manipulation.

It can be difficult for some patients to see the difference. AFAIC, that's as much on them as on the quack, but I'm guessing that's not a popular viewpoint.

If, for example, 95% of the tear was caused by her photo shoot fall, how could it be determined the chiropractor was at fault for 100%?

If 99.9% of patients receive the exact same care without incident, why was she affected?

Why wasn't the chiropractor arrested for 'homicide by misadventure' (accidential killing by lawful act)?

It's much like someone dying from a stroke the day after he rode a roller coaster at Six Flags. Is Six Flags at fault? No.

There are just too many what-if's to say 'chiropractor kills patient'. But like I said upthread...to get $$, the path of least resistance is through the big dogs...American Chiropractic Association...for an out-of-court settlement.
