Hi,

I don't have any experience with a Pilates Spine Corrector (and sorry to say, have never heard of it).

But, I was researching that Pilates Chair that QVC sells and learned that there are definitely some back exercises that someone with osteoporosis should NOT do. (That's why I was doing the research.)

I just looked up the William Exercises recommended below and see that 2 of them involved curving the back - something that must be avoided for someone with osteoporosis!

So, I just thought I'd mention that what's good for one back ailment might not be good for another.

I ended up finding a few books and DVDs with exercises specifically modified for my particular condition. I had never heard the thing about not curving your back (like sit-ups) until I read those books!

Best of luck!

On the Hammacher Schlemmer website I noticed a Pilates Spine Corrector that's manufactured by the same company that brings reformers to the Q. The company seems so good and I really like the vendor. It also seems like she used to be on much more. She has such an inspiring personal story of how she used Pilates to rehab after an injury.

I am curious of anyone else has a Spine Corrector and if you do if you like it.

Thanks everyone

For anyone with a back issue. I have seen some of what they do with this thing on Utube, and as one that is minus my: L-3/L-5/S-1 spinal discs? If you first pay $200 for this thing, that is your first mistake.

You can do so many things without any special equipment for your back, and also not risk injuring your spine, much easier and cheaper.

Do a google for Williams Exercises and if you do them on a regular basis you will be protecting your spine, and can also use them, but differently for rehabilitation of an injured back.

hckynut(john)

I will try going a search to see if it still exists.

I really liked the Pilates presenter when she was on!! What I like about the Spine Corrector is that it is actually comes with a DVD with the series of exercises Joseph Pilates designed to strengthen the back and correct imbalances!!

That says what you're describing sounds like it would be easy enough to incorporate with the Spine Corrector plus what I am doing already.

Thanks again

@sockmonkey

Hi to you,

No matter what exercises one considers for their spine, if you have a specific type of spinal issue(in your case osteoporosis), it is always wise to check with ones doctor, or Physical Therapist(if the have used one), before doing anything that could possibly do harm to the spine.

The Williams Exercises have been around for a few decades, but over that time have been modified. They are still a primary exercise routine used by PT, to help prevent spinal injuries and also for patients post spinal surgery.

This expensive piece of furniture I looked at(don't remember the name), but for $200? As one missing 3 lumbar discs, I see more chances for injury than I do to protect the lower spine, than I do beneficial using it.

If someone wants to spend $200 on what I think will end up as a piece of furniture, and possibly even exacerbate a lumbar issue? That certainly is their choice, but not mine. I will stick with what I know that works, both for building the necessary core strength, and increasing the flexibility, which are paramount in helping prevent lumbar injuries/rehab from surgical procedures, and most of all cost $0.00.

hckynut(john)
