I am going thru the same thing right now. What is working for me, is that when we first learned of the situation, I prayed a very detailed and fervent prayer, and I visually saw myself handing this over to God. Every day I thank God for carrying the burden for me, and keep telling myself I will not worry unless I know I need to.

My best wishes to you.

I come from a family of worry warts. What helped me was thinking "okay, what is the worst that can happen, and what can I do if it does?" Very rarely would that worst happen, but just having a plan helped me feel prepared, and less worried.

As I've gotten older, I worry less. I think of the amount of time I wasted over things that didn't happen, or if it did, I got through. We are all stronger than we think when we are tested. None of us knows the future. I don't think it's a matter of a positive attitude, but simply getting through the "now" with as much grace as we can muster.

As I now am able to look at a few things that have gone on in my life, I know the only way to handle most things that's worked for me is to take it one day at a time and that's the best you can do, as you go through things. Best wishes with what you're going through and for a positive outcome for you.

I don't have anything going in my life but I come from a family who gravitate to the negative on everything and I work in a very negative environment.

In order to keep from getting sucked in, I surround myself with positive messages.

Positive music (there is a Christian contemporary radio station in my area that has positive messages, I use this to wake up to in the morning). Spa music is also great. Pandora has a Spa Channel on their free service.

Noah St. John has a system called "Afformations" - a series of questions you ask yourself (vs positive self talk)

Podcasts - a new fun one I listed to is The Living Experiment.

Setting an Intention - each morning when I wake up I set an intention for the day. It can be general like "today will be a great day at work, everyone will cooperate with me and I will get a lot done." Or it can be very specific like "I am going to rock my presentation today and get a tremendous amount of positive feedback."

The great thing about attitude is that you can control it. You can choose to have a positive attitude.

My young life was probably different than many here for several reasons. Since that age and during my whole adult life, I always looked at everything in my life with optimism.

Many times it included being good, and/or the best during my Auto Racing days. I never thought about losing, only what I needed to do to win. I was very successful in this sport, and was known by many auto racers around the Midwest, for many years.

I could list many of my personal accomplishments in other such things as this, but I will spare everyone those oft told stories. What I will say is this. The reasons for my accomplishments were because I was optimistic, but also knew that "nothing comes easy". It takes determination/dedication, and the willingness to work very hard to succeed.

Fast forward many decades and I have faced many life and death health issues. As I have said to many here, one of my reasons for being able to survive things that kill thousands every year, my best and most loyal reason for my recoveries, was my Optimism. Without that? I am not sure I would have survived my first battle for life.

Everyone has bad things happen in there lives, some they can control, others they cannot. Worry about things one cannot control, in my world is a waste of time/energy and bad thoughts running rampant through ones mind, like the "what if".

These things I mentioned have never failed me during my rather long life, but they do not come easy. I wish you the best during your bad times.

hckynut(john)

I speak from experience..there is an ad on television for heart failure medication saying for heart failure patients tomorrow is not a given. Having had a serious heart attack and now in heart failure, I enjoy each day as it comes. Today was a good day...I had lunch out and walked around a beautiful town with a lovely shopping district. I so much notice the little things now and try in being appreciative of whatever time I have left.

I wish you you happiness and hope you can live in the here and now...

I go through periods where I get hit with so much stuff all at once that all I can do is laugh! It's either that or fall apart completely! I even joke someone has put a curse on my family (sometimes it doesn't feel like a joke, tho!)! I give myself time to be miserable for a while (you have to face what's going on in some manner, me, I wallow a while!) then I start planning! It depends on what the problem du jour is, but I either look for a doctor, I google the problem, etc. trying to figure out how to recover from the worst of it first, usually when that one is dealt with, the others have gone away, or weren't as important as I thought they had been! My advice? Cry (or mope ),think and plan, face the problem with new knowledge, resolve, and laugh! Truly, a lot of laughing helps! Even if it's pretend laughing!😉

I know how you feel and as you see from the posts, many of us do know how you feel.

Unfortunately, there are the bad, dark times in our lives, where we feel like things are never going to get better and this is how things will always be.

But, fortunately, things do get better. We really can't change a lot of things happening but it is true that we can change the way we respond to them.

I have found since i have gotten older that if I get really miserable, say for instance, I am having a horrible day at work, and then, I project this out, to everyone else, then all I do is make my day worse. I am surrounded by more negativity and therefore, I have an even worse day. So, I try and the key word is "try" to project some positivity. I don't mean that I necessarily have to be Little Miss Sunshine, but that I try and smile and make a few comments to people here and there. Many times, my mood gets broken and I feel a little better.

If I try and get out of my own head and focus on other people, then I feel less negative and don't dwell so much on the bad things that are happening with me. I might ask a co-worker --- how is your mother doing or something like that. And the next thing you know, I am thinking about someone else and am not so mired down in my own problems.

I am not saying that I am always successful but I find that many times that negativity breeds more negativity.

Another thought though is --- it's not good to keep things all bottled up either. If you have a trusted friend, perhaps, you can take a time, maybe a walk or something, and just vent. Tell them how things are going and how you are quite worried about everything. Problems seem less large when shared.

Keep your chin up. It happens to all of us!!!

At the worst times in my life - when my first husband was killed and when my parents were in a horrible car accident costing them their lives - I was a nurse working in ICU. It isn't difficult to look around the ICU and realize that despite what was going on in my life I was infinitely better off than these poor patients who were , literally, struggling for every breath they took. On ventilators and drugs to maintain their BP - septic shock - yep it made me realize my problems weren't anywhere near as bad as their's.
