I woke up and my leg is in awful pain. Before I went to sleep last night I had a little hip pain so I took some Aleve which usually helps in the day time. I can barely walk I hurt so much. A year and a half ago I had an operation and the doctor took out the arthritis on my back and I felt good afterwards. Pain pills never helped.

I accidently turned on to Larry King and he was advertising Omega XL. Wondering has anyone tried it. Don't know the price until I call.

If I were in that much pain, I'd make an appointment with the doctor to discuss options. He may give you something for the pain, but might also prescribe physical theraphy or something else.

I wouldn't buy anything from the TV for pain or weightloss

I am sorry to hear you are in pain. This is something I am familiar with on a daily basis. People are correct, since you had surgery this is something your surgeon or family physician/GP should evaluate.

If you have taken any suppliments or OTC medication report all of this to your physician. While you are waiting for your appointment, you might ask the doctors office their suggestion for helping with the pain in the meantime. They may suggest something as simple as a warm shower and gentle stretching of the muscles in the area. Check with them first.

You had surgery. From that experience can you differentiate between nerve and muscle pain? Sometimes it is both if nerves are firing and causing muscles to spasm. In the meantime keep a few notes to provide your physician with the most accurate information about your pain (i.e. what makes it worse or better, what time of day it increased and the duration of the pain). Good luck and feel better soon.

I usually don't have pain these days, although I used to suffer quite intensely at one point in my life. Now an occasional headache and with a couple of naproxen (Aleve dupe) its gone.

I take things to PREVENT rather than to treat my pain. I have an autoimmune disease called scleroderma. It comes with much pain. In the beginning I was on pain meds and hated taking them. Over the years I have commited myself to finding natural and effective alternative methods of managing my pain as well as other health issues I have. We really do have choices. You just have to know where to look.

My "go-to" for back pain is Tylenol #4, which I have been taking for years. If I don't need anything that severe, I take Advil. I also take aspirin (325 mg.) QD since my heart attack 26 years ago......

My husband has peripheral neuropathy and cannot tolerate any of the meds prescribed for him, eg: Lyrica, Neurontin, Cymbalta, etc..... He doesn't like the way they make him feel and would rather tolerate the pain, which is pretty bad. But he still manages to do 200 push-ups every other day.

As for me, I would rather take a pill and hope it makes me feel better.

Halfpint: Go and see your doctor. Everybody's pain is different Hope you feel better....

I have a bad hip that bothers me all the time , but especialy at night. Some times it's so bad I could just cry with pain and frustration. I hate eusing pain meds, so I asked the dr for a script for a tens unit. It really helps take the pain away.. I try not to take my pain meds if I can help it and the tens unit is just the thing. Insurance paid for the unit and I just buy the batteries and the contact pads.

IMO, age is really just a number. My neighbor is 83 y/o and just got back from a 3 week trip to Germany (her homeland) - visiting an aunt who is 90 and just got out of the hospital. This neighbor also goes to a gym on a regular basis and does yoga. She is never home. Her car is never in her driveway. When she is home, she is cleaning, cooking (she lives alone with her little dog), etc.

When she walks the dog, it's always the same route - and it's one mile. She also wears a back brace because she has problems with osteo and when she was a child in Germany, she jumped off a bus and broke both her legs. She doesn't walk straight but she walks. I never hear her say she's "old".

Whenever I talk to her over the phone or outside, she says "I live alone, that's why I have to take care of myself"...... She eats well too - three meals a day. She's about 5'6" and has weighed 130 forever. So here is a woman who is 83 and remarkable healthy and then there are those who are in their 60's and 70's who are not...... Maybe I should start drinking wine with my meals like she does???? Anyway, age is just a number....

A friend of mine swears by Excedrin Migrane .... it's a combination of 250 mg acetominaphin and 250 mg aspirin. I didn't know you could mix those two, but apparently you can. Perhaps "two pain killers are better than one" ?
