Ladies, favorite RUMP brand

For those just wonder what the heck RUMP's were, it's an acronym. ReUsable Menstrual Products.

What are some good brands, both price and quality, of cloth pads? Zulily.com sells a brand called Hygiene Love, but I can't find a review on them. I would love to buy Precious Stars, but the young lady, started her business around 14 yrs old, is in the UK. I've dealt with identity theft before and I'm weary about shopping ovrrseas.....not because of her, but the whole buying ovrrseas part.

I want to make my own. I'm hoping HSN has a TS sewing machine soon. The last machine I had would eat the cloth, no matter the material. I was in my early 20's and stupidly sold it for next to nothing instead of taking it in or taking a sewing class or tutor for a try.

You are talking about manufacturing personal hygene products. I would check carefully about laws specific to the manufacture and safety of such materials.

You dont want to go in over your head before knowing everything necessary. hth.

No, I wasn't going to sell them, just for me. Very simple sewing. I just don't have a machine at the moment. My hand sewing is horrible.

There are so many brands outthere that it can get overwhelming. Which is why im asking here for brands, or if anyone likes the Zulily ones.

Party in my pants has a sample, you only pay for the shipping, that I'm tempted to get. Though I would need longer than the standard size. I have stress incontinence, so I really want to get washable liners to use daily when my autumn allergies start up.

IMO, you're really barking up the wrong tree here. Are you doing this because you think you'll save money ... or what?

Women's sanitary products are manufactured to be effective, sanitary ... and disposable. If you are making and re-washing sanitary products on a regular basis, I don't think it's possible to to guarantee you get all the germs and bacteria out, regardless of any super duper laundry products you use, which will be pricey. Not to mention residual stains.

IMO, this is a very bad idea.

Reusable products like these are seen as a green solution, not clogging landfills with sanitary pads. Some women get severe irritation from commercial pads and prefer cloth, much like some babies can't tolerate disposable diapers and must wear cloth.

I don't have to deal with the issue any more (I am 62). But if I were to make my own pads I'd use them on lighter flow days and use disposables for the 2 or 3 heavy flow days.

Women have had to make pads for millennia. My mom grew up in eastern Europe during WW II and she said they used rags. There was nothing else.

I have a friend that used a Diva Cup. Liked it. Nice alternative.

I understand the idea of making your own products.

It can be done easily AND safely but it's much like the diaper argument:

Which is better? Disposable or Cloth?

Each has Downsides

Each has Merits

The disposable napkins of today absorb more, which one would use less. They are also thinner, which results in less trash. Versus..the energy & detergent to wash/dry a number of cloth napkins for a 3-5 day timeframe each month.

No, it's not to save money outright, it will be cheaper in the long run though. I have always been very sensitive to the chemicals in commercial pads. Currently I use Always Infinity, they don't bother me, work like a charm, but are on the pricer side...here anyway.

I actually requested a pack for Christmas last year from my older sister, we're 4 years apart. At first she thought I was kidding. But I told her, "I don't want for anything. I'm trying to get rid of unnecessary clutter. It's $10 for a large pack right now. That's a lot cheaper than a gift that will be loved and appreciated, but ultimately just take space. This is something you know I'll use, that's guaranteed. I prefer practical gifts." She chuckled, I thought she had forgotten about it. Then, lo and behold, she remembered! When I compared it to giving diapers at a baby shower, I think it clicked.

My main reason is, I'm in a rural area, I like it, but really want to go farther off the grid in the coming years. I'm extremely sensitive to emfs, and don't use much electricty, don't go anywhere near high voltage. When I'm away from electricty my nerves are at ease. I know that may be hard to grasp by some, but it's how I am. I don't leave anything plugged in that I don't have to. At night, there are 3 things plugged in; refrigerator, washer, and dryer, and those are because I can't get to the plug / the refrigerator has to stay plugged in. Luckily, my room is away from the kitchen where they all are. When things are plugged in my tinnitus or chirping wonto shut up. Unplugged or roughing it, it's gone. Being able to make and reuse a product will greatly help once I'm well away from society.

I'm not a tree hugging yuppie by any rate. My grandmother instilled in me making what you could, as you can control the quality. No different than making clothes and having a garden when you live beside Wal-Mart. While you could easily buy everything made, knowing how to live by your own means is well worth it. Hand washing isn't hard, humans have done it for thousands of years, and pads will use less than a gallon of water, sunlight or hanging in a breeze is free.
